Australia has rammed through another law requiring “abhorrent” video, audio or still images to be removed within an hour. This will apply to content providers both in and out of Australia as long as the content is available to Australians. Individuals and companies face jail time and/or huge fines if the content is not removed "within a reasonable time". If the content is found to be hosted in Australia then the Australian government must be alerted. This is yet another knee jerk reaction to the NZ shootings which were streamed live online.
Who is paying for someone to be awake at 3am to curate and remove this stuff?

Sites like this one existed prior to social media as is generally understood, so no. I don't count it as one. And I have my doubts that this kind of stuff is what any legislation is aimed at (too small a target, centralized large platforms let you censor a lot in one swoop, they attract this kind of legislation for that reason, collateral damage and all). So I repeat myself social media has already killed the internet, and its existence is what brings things like this legislation into being.

Doesn't matter. Intent is one of the first things to go when authoritarians are on a powertrip. If SN gets on the radar, they'll use the mallet on it just like they would anything else.

Social media as it's known now grew directly from sites like this or rather like /. back in the day, which grew from usenet and such. It's not a new phenomenon, just an optimization of a very old one.
