Since the settlement of Jamestown in 1607 and the start of the Colonial period, the U.S. has been predominantly white.
But the white share of the U.S. population has been dropping, from a little under 90% in 1950 to 60% in 2018. It will likely drop below 50% in another 25 years.
White nationalists want America to be white again. But this will never happen. America is on its way to becoming predominantly non-white.
The U.S. federal government uses two questions to measure a person's race and ethnicity. One asks if the person is of Hispanic origin, and the other asks about the person's race.
A person is defined as white if he or she identifies as being only white and non-Hispanic. A minority, or nonwhite, person is anyone who is not solely non-Hispanic white.

When Christopher Columbus arrived in America in 1492, there were around 10 million American Indians living in the lands north of Mexico. But by the 1800s their numbers had dwindled to about 1 million. They are now the smallest race group in the U.S.
The first sizable stream of immigrants to what is now the U.S. were whites from England. Their arrival at Plymouth in 1620 in search of religious freedom marked the start of large waves of whites coming to this land.
When the U.S. was established as a country in 1776, whites comprised roughly 80% of the population. The white share rose to 90% in 1920, where it stayed until 1950.
[...] Although the majority of the U.S. population today is still white, non-whites account for more than half of the populations of Hawaii, the District of Columbia, California, New Mexico, Texas and Nevada. And, in the next 10 to 15 years, these half dozen "majority-minority" [PDF] states will likely be joined by as many as eight other states where whites now make up less than 60% of the population.
Census Bureau projections show that the U.S. population will be "majority-minority" sometime between 2040 and 2050. Our research suggests that this will happen around 2044. Indeed, in 2020, there are projected to be more non-white children than white children in the U.S.

and I always thought white was lazy for Caucasian. Even in the most backwards, racist 1700s, no one ever thought for Spaniards to be non-white.

"White" has morphed so much in the last 80 years or so as to be meaningless. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant? Well who wants to be Protestant, these days, when Franklin Graham is getting all up in the queers stuff? And Anglo? Or Saxon? What about the Welsh, the Irish, the Iceni, the Britons, the true Celtic indigenous people of the Isles? (who, by the way, do not approve of Brexit. I was just asking Boudecia what she thought, and she called Teresa May a Roman Whore, so there's that.)
The point being that lots of "Americans" (and I use the term loosely) count as "white" who never could have in the recent past. And I am not talkng about former slaves, or native Americans, or Mexicans, Cubans, PuertoRicans, Hispanolians, or Californians, I am talking about Jews (this still comes up in some circles, or EFs), Bohunks and other Slavs (not white, see "Hungarian Phrasebook", Monty Python [youtube.com]), Italians, Spaniards, Fricken Swedes (who cannot speak English, Uff da!), and the Bloody Irish (why are they bloody? Something to to with English tyranny and military force?). None of these people were "WASPs", but now they are baptised into the fold of "whiteness"? Bullshit. They are still non-white, and the "White" elite knows this, but is only allowing it to gather allies for the war against all the people left out side the charmed circle, sort of, to use a metaphor from Ireland, beyond the Pale [urbandictionary.com]?

Spanish, and therefore Hispanic, morphed away from white after the Moorish invasion... forward that on to Central and South America for further mixing, and it is a clearly recognizable distinct race, not the "royal Spanish" (of which almost no pure blood remains), but the globally recognized Hispanics of the Americas.

Well, you got that right. Grandfather was second generation Polack immigrant. As young men tend to do, he fell in love with a cute little girl. This little girl happened to be French. He daddy cursed my grandpa, and told him, "I'd rather she married a nigger!" I guess Grandpa was hung like a horse, because that little French girl married him anyway - I grew up calling her "Grandma".
Grandpa found the cottage of his dreams, and hers, as well. He couldn't buy the cottage and two acres, because it was deeded so that only "white" people could buy it. Time for that dumb Pollack to do an end run around the law - he paid some old white guy to buy the property, and to write his will so that Grandpa inherited. No non-white has ever bought that property, but one did inherit it. Damn those dumb Pollacks!

A lot of this is rooted in a poor understanding of history. The Irish used to be referred to as niggers for a long period and most of the other epithets used against the Blacks applied as well. They and the Italians didn't graduate into what we consider to be "White" until sometime in the '30s. Most of the White ethnic groups were discriminated against at some point during the history of the US. Right now it's fashionable to be racist against Russians again. Sigh, but nobody really wants to admit that that's what's driving the current red scare as much as actual malfeasance on the part of the Russian government.
Most groups have figured out over the years that you have to build coalitions and your own community up if you want to be well off, some choose not to do that and instead blame others for their own failures.

I've never understood this as well. I don't understand how white supremacy is an excuse to shoot up a mosque or temple either. Islam and Judaism are religions. I can understand that many muslims aren't white, but 90% of Jews are white germanics. Same with Catholicism, that is the most white religion out there. Why would white supremacy be in conflict with the majority religion of Europe?

You might want to do a little research. Islam is not a religion, exactly. It is a complete socio-economic, political, AND religious system. Other religions tend to pry into one or more aspect of your life, whether it be business, family, politics, or whatever. Islam claims to rule every aspect of your life. And, Islam, today, still executes heretics, witches, sorcerers, homosexuals, apostates, "terrorists", and more.

Thankfully our ancestors realized that religious persecution could target themselves so they implemented protective laws. We currently have the religious right trying to reestablish a church and state society, and the only thing stopping them is the surge in atheism along with the laws against such merging.
It is easy to hate on cultures that still have hangups, much like how Europeans laugh at us stupid Murricans. Islam is 100% a religion, but some societies haven't figured out that separating church and state is a very necessary step.
Be glad you live in a slightly more sane country, but don't get feeling too superior just yet. Especially you Runaway, you've already gone wide-eyed looney about the thought of killing liberals that try to implement *screeeeam* "socialism."

To me not only 'Hispanic' sounds strange, because people are meant that are not from Spain, but also Caucasian sounds weird because only a small minority of people actually are from the Caucasus.
In the current era of oversensitive melanin wars, I expect that the term 'Hispanic' will be replaced soon, because it stands for "descendants of people colonized by Spaniards".
Finally, fighting over race is extremely stupid and wasteful, because nobody can be held responsible for the DNA that they're born with. It's just as silly as condemning people for hereditary conditions.

Sorry, the census form says "White, Black, Hispanic". Black doesn't exist if White doesn't. There's no checkbox for Bantu or Australian Aboriginal. Just like there's no check box for Celt vs Nord.
By convention White means Light Skinned people European Descent, and is one of the most genocided groups in the world, who now make up only 8% of the world's population.

Portuguese here. Lisbon is not Portugal, as London is not England.
I am feeding a troll, but I am curious why are we not human? I know Devin Nunes is not a great specimen of our descendence but he was indeed elected by popular vote in the USA, and last time I checked it requires one to be a citizen, therefore a human to be elected to the American Congress. There are specimens like the current UN secretary general (a loser in my opinion, but hey the world seems to like it).
As you maybe are not aware but Lisbon is over-crowded by tourists and they bring their own problems. If you did not know Madona is living in Lisbon for 2 years now and she got recently shocked when her request to bring a horse into a 19th century palace was rejected[1]. She wanted to use the horse to record some footage and she was upset when her request was rejected because it would damage the place. Can you imagine we actually cared about the place? It's amazing how we sub-humans do it.
Dear anon, i guess you had a bad experience, please hang around a bit more in Portugal next time you visit. Visit the beautiful Atlantic coast[2], the countryside, and our food[3]. We also have islands which many people find quite nice[4]. People seem to enjoy the Portuguese people in general and we are a more calm kind of Iberian. I am an emigrant in Poland and I do not hear people complaining about Portuguese also. Oh, I am darker, so the moorish kind of sub-human. If you ever find your self in need of travel advice in Portugal message me on Soylent and I will oblige.

you're missing something. hispanics have a link to spain via the language and usually blood but are mixed with mongoloids (asians) which are not white/Aryan. this is where the discrepancy comes from.
