Flying can be an excruciating experience these days. The CEO of United Airlines recently admitted that by the time passengers sit down on his planes, they're already "pissed at the world." But plenty of airlines have tried to make things more fun over the years, even if they were incredibly weird. So weird, in fact, that they went out of business.

The best way to fly is not to.
High speed rail is much better for several reasons. First, you can get up and walk around, sit in the dining car or observation car, and feel like a human being with dignity. Second, there are things to look at out the window, that is, the scenery is better. Third, if you get a compartment you can sleep, study, work, etc without your neighbor's elbow in your throat. Fourth, the train takes you right into the city center, so there's no nonsense with taxis or shuttles to take you another couple hours from the airport to the hotel downtown.
Anybody who lives in Europe knows this, as do those in Japan or other civilized countries. America would be a fantastic place to travel by high speed rail, as its traffic is ferocious on the highways and in the airports and in the skies, and its scenery has got that available in most of the other parts of the world beat, hands-down.
