Uber drivers working at Reagan National Airport have found a way to increase their revenue by taking advantage of the "surge" pricing algorithm used by the app. By logging off and making themselves scarce as a plane full of potential riders arrives on the runway, the sharp change in the supply vs. demand of drivers and passengers causes fare prices to rise automatically. The drivers can then sign back in and snap up these gigs while the higher prices remain in effect.

The current rate we see is a shrinking of part time and a uptick in actual hiring. It could also be a shrinkage in the illegal participation rate. Until participation goes up I would not really pay attention to it. The problem with most of these numbers is illegal aliens. No one is totally sure of the numbers. They are talking anywhere from 5-40 million people. Many of them working under the table. That sort of thing is not reported for obvious reasons. Depending on what the actual number is and what the rates are in that community would mess with the actual numbers badly.
Fake? Not really. Not 100% correct? Probably. Shows good trends almost certainly.
