Men initiate sex more than three times as often as women do in a long-term, heterosexual relationship. However, previous research shows that sex happens far more often whenever the woman takes the initiative, suggesting that it is the woman who thus sets the limits to a greater extent than men do.
Psychologists at NTNU have investigated what other factors play a role for frequency of intercourse in couples in long-term relationships.
Two factors are decisive in how often women take the initiative at all.
Attitudes to casual sex

Does this make some sort of a beginning, of explaining why so many people stay in abusive relationships? Or, hop from one abusive relationship to another? She's looking for passion, and when the passion begins to wane, she jumps into another passionate relationship?
To be clear - I'm not making a statement here - I'm asking a question. So many things women do, simply don't make sense. Putting up with an abusive man is one of those things. One of the biggest things, actually.

That makes some sense to me, maybe a combination of that and Stockholm syndrome?
