Researchers discovered two vulnerabilities in Alaris Gateway Workstations that are used to deliver fluid medication. One of them is critical and an attacker could leverage it to take full control of the medical devices connecting to it.

A flaw in the firmware code of the device has been assigned the highest severity score, a perfect 10, so it can be exploited remotely and without authentication. The other issue received is less severe and affects the workstation's web-based management interface.

[...] Researchers at CyberMDX discovered that AGW's firmware can be replaced remotely with a custom version. An attacker sitting on the same network as the target system would be able "update and manipulate a CAB file, which stores files in an archived library and utilizes a proper format for Windows CE," say the researchers.

With this type of access, the adversary would be able to alter the dosage of the drug dispensed by certain models of infusion pumps connected to an AWG, which are common in hospital wards and intensive care units.

So if I have a hobby, I'm not allowed to submit articles about that hobby unless I'm also making a bunch of submissions about crap I don't care about? That's pretty fucking asinine. That would be a great rule to implement if you want a bunch of hastily written and poorly informed garbage submissions, otherwise I can't see it working too well....

So either SN has some truly awful editorial policies that ought to be scrapped immediately, or that whole line of argument is just irrelevant bullshit.

The problem is that having a "hobby" of submitting irrelevant, sensationalized, political tabloid stories about the "alt-right" does not mean they should be accepted and posted on the front page. They can be posted in the user journals instead.

Porto-potties are great! Why do editors keep rejecting my porto-pottie submissions?

See? This is what the complaints are about. If ALL I talk about are porto-potties, whether in submissions or comments that are completely off-topic, people will get shit bored with me.

If I have a hobby and want to post non-stop about it, I would use my journal.

@Snow posts about his extra-marital(?) events IN HIS JOURNAL!
I have a hobbies and posted them in my journal.
My wife, the love of my life HAS lieukemia and we're STILL not sure where her body is taking her and I posted it IN MY JOURNAL!

    Alt-right non-stop is like porto-potties non-stop: something that belongs in a JOURNAL.

Yeah, but a journal isn't the front page, and Aristarchus needs to be front and center or he throws a temper-tantrum and shits all over every story that's not one of his.

The phrase "attention whore" comes to mind.

I think everyone should submit articles about anything they want.

I don't think that's really the issue here.

Having a bunch of off-topic comments complaining that it's not an Aristarchus submission instead, on almost every story, reduces the signal-to-noise ratio and often derails what could be an interesting and informative discussion.

Take the comments on this story as an example. As I write this comment, 11 of the 15 comments are about Aristarchus and editorial decisions (when I'm done it will be 12 of 16), and only four comments actually address the subject of TFS/TFA.

I find that counter-productive and extremely annoying.

I'm sick to death of hearing about how Aristarchus' submissions are unfairly being passed over. As the submission guidelines say (paraphrasing), "grousing about declined submissions is off-topic."

Aristarchus has once again hijacked a perfectly good story to piss and moan about how we aren't paying enough attention to him. Maybe he should get a dog or something.

That is an argument I can agree with, and if these posts get marked spam or offtopic or deleted entirely, that's fine by me. What pisses me off is when I see three or four different people each giving conflicting explanations for why subs don't get accepted -- and explanations that often apply to plenty of other subs that WERE accepted. It feels like there's no actual policy, or at least no policy to deal with whatever issue is perceived with the Ari subs, and people are just making shit up to defend whatever they feel like doing. And that fucking sucks...

The editors decide which submissions to accept, and which to decline.

They have the first and last say about it.

I'm guessing that if you asked, and were willing to put in the time and effort required to keep the stories coming, on your own time, with no compensation or reward other than keeping the queue stocked with stories, and take the abuse from folks who don't like your editorial decisions, you could be bad-mouthed by users too.

Sounds like a plum job, eh?

Yah, let's see 500 articles in a row about alt-right: then let see how fast this place dies.

I don't like all submissions but I like seeing a variety of submissions. One or two GOOD alt-right articles from Ari? Fine.
500 shit alt-right submissions? Suck my dick, NO!
ALL he submits is the same boring shit with whining and complaining. He's become a joke.

How many times would YOU, if you were an editor, want to post a good, logical reason for rejecting shit after the 500th submission of said shit?
