Facebook may be trying to censor hate-speech, but others are putting it to good use.

From CNN

Law enforcement agencies in Dallas and Florida on Thursday became the latest to announce they are investigating allegations some of their employees made offensive comments on Facebook after a watchdog group compiled screenshots of the posts and shared them in an online database.

The screenshots of the public posts, published in the Plain View Project's online database, purport to show officers or police department employees making hateful or racist remarks.

[...] Since its founding in 2017, the Plain View Project says it has compiled images of more than 5,000 social media posts and comments by more than 3,500 current and former police officers in eight jurisdictions throughout the US.
Researchers obtained rosters of police officers and then looked them up on Facebook, according to the project's website.

After examining the profiles to confirm they belonged to police officers, they reviewed public posts and comments to see if they would "undermine public trust and confidence in police."

That's great and all and the saying can be expanded to all kinds of nonsense, but what benefits to society is there in nurturing hate? That needs to be defined to justify society wanting to protect such a thing. What's the purpose, why do we want hate?

        I agree.
Only popular opinions should be allowed to be uttered.

        You've got it backwards.
According to the American Constitution, the default position is to protect *all* speech.
We do not need a justification for why speech is "good" in order for it to be protected.
FREE SPEECH it used to be called.

One does not "nurture" hate. One tolerates it. If you "nurture" hate, then you are in fact a hater. A Ghandi, a Nelson, a King, "tolerated" hatred, while preaching a better message, in an attempt to counter the hatred. You most certainly don't battle the hatred. Doing so only validates the hate.

Need I point out, again, that in relatively recent years, the KKK couldn't drum up membership? People were ignoring them, so they were drying up, in preparation for blowing away. In more recent years, fools and damned fools have begun persecuting whites in general, and the various hate groups in particular. Oh - looky now! Membership is increasing!

Of course, no progressive or liberal is likely to see any cause and effect here. Or, if they see a cause, and an effect, they're going to get it bass-ackwards.
