Things finally came to a head on slashdot last night, and now anonymous posts are banned. No more anonymous nazi ASCII art, no anonymous racism, and no APK. More in this journal entry [Ed's Comment: And lots of interesting comments too ...].

It's one way to combat anonymous hate speech and forum spam.

[Editor (JR) We've looked at the site but we cannot find an announcement that anonymous posts are actually banned; it might simply be a case that the software is not working correctly, although it would seem to be an unlikely cause. Does anyone in our community have any additional information to categorically prove or disprove that anonymous comments are disabled?

Furthermore, as there are many more comments in the journal entry than there are here, I would recommend making any new comments on BarbaraHudson's journal entry rather than splitting the discussion into two.]

Submitted a funny (true) news story about cops at a donut shop and they banned all my comments logged in or as AC (IP block). Fuckem. They let the nazis post shit but censor other crap.

While that *might* be true, Anonymous Coward doesn't have a great record for being factual. Sorry about that, but how can I trust your assertion without evidence that I can check?

"Sorry about that, but how can I trust your assertion without evidence that I can check?"

Well, see, we got these thingies on the interwebz called search engines. Check out Google or Duckduckgo, for example. Or you could go to Bing if you are a dyed in the wool M$ fanboy (aka fool). BTW, knowing someone's identity, by itself, is not "evidence". Frankly, my suspicion is that what you really want to do is to "judge" the evidence based on who is presenting it. There is a logical fallacy built into that heuristic. Parenthetically, it is one of the reasons I always post AC (i.e., to stop people from judging my posts based on who I am rather than what I have written).

Especially on busy news cycles, yep. Subs only stay in the queue for two weeks I think. If no editor thinks "hey, that could lead to better discussion than all these others" during that time, it goes poof even if it would have been a decent story at another time. You can always resub if you think that was the case.
