UPI reports ( https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2019/08/23/5291566589999/ ) that Google has published and communicated to employees on Thursday new guidelines regarding communication by employees. The new policy, oddly available to the public at https://about.google/community-guidelines/ , is described as official and applying to employees while in the workplace.
Prominently mentioned are political discussions:
While sharing information and ideas with colleagues helps build community, disrupting the workday to have a raging debate over politics or the latest news story does not. Our primary responsibility is to do the work we've each been hired to do, not to spend working time on debates about non-work topics. Avoid conversations that are disruptive to the workplace or otherwise violate Google's workplace policies. Managers are expected to address discussions that violate those rules.
As well as internal matters:
Do not access, disclose, or disseminate Need-to-Know or Confidential information in violation of our Data Security Policy. You are responsible for adhering to these guidelines, our Code of Conduct, and other workplace policies. If discussions or behavior don't align with this policy, managers and discussion owners/moderators are expected to intervene. If necessary we will remove particular discussion forums, revoke commenting, viewing, or posting privileges, or take disciplinary action.

It was on a private board of 'hey maybe we got this wrong and here is why I think so'. Maybe he was right or wrong. But whatever....
Someone 'outted' him then 'no-platformed' him. They even took two tries to do it! This was petty retaliation for ideas they did not like.
Then it turned into a shitshow. So yeah the corp google responded like all corps do when the political heat gets too high. They fire all involved.
I personally think he was wrong. From my perspective most women are way too down on themselves. I have no idea why. The first time I saw it was in college. All the cute chics dropped out. They were all getting A's. They had it nailed. They just did not like the work. The ones who actually get through all the way are always apologizing. I BEG them to stop. I show them how they are killing it. They are fine. In fact they usually are doing way better than their colleagues. But there is something that most women I work with do. They slag on themselves way to hard. They are doing it to themselves! None of the guys I have worked with do this. Just women.

So he speculates on an email list that some people (who are probably on the list) are less good at their jobs for biological reasons. Are you surprised that the targets take major offense? Why is that petty? He is attacking them to the core.
