Bags of white powder seized as part of a "huge drugs bust" at London's Gatwick Airport actually contained vegan cake ingredients, the British Transport Police said.

A member of staff at Purezza, a vegan restaurant with stores in London and Brighton, was transporting a suitcase filled with bags of cake mix when it was seized by police Wednesday afternoon.

Happened to me when I was importing herbal teas for relations in Japan. Mostly chamomille, but the very polite customs officer, (oh, those Japanese! So polite!) asked if he could take a sample, and in a matter of minutes we were on our way. I blame English speaking custom agents, they regularly do not understand what they are looking at, what with being White and all. These days, I avoid travelling to "white" countries. Unless I have a mass shooting assignment, which I never do.

You only get one of those assignments.

This is obviously flamebait, but there's definitely some truth to it.

Here's an experiment for you: put a nice water bottle in your backpack, and fill it up with water. Go through security at any American airport, and see what happens to you. (Answer: you'll either have to throw away the bottle with water in a bin, where, if it were actually a bomb, would kill lots of people, or you'll be required to go *back out* of the security area, to the bathroom, and dump your water there, then start over and go *back* through the entire line!)

Now, do the same thing at a Japanese airport for a flight bound for the US. (Answer: they'll take the bottle from you, get you through the security process, then the ultra-polite Japanese lady will ask you if she can dump it, and will then take your bottle and dump it in a container kept there just for this purpose. Then she'll hand your bottle back to you and send you on your way.)

I don't know how the other 5-eyes countries are, but it actually does make good sense to avoid travel to America these days, for many reasons. Traveling from Japan to America is like traveling from America to Syria: why would you want to subject yourself to that?

When I was standing in line in Melbourne Airport last year awaiting my flight the American lady in front of me asked the Customs bloke if she should take her shoes off yet.

He replied, with typical Aussie bluntness, "no, why the hell would you do that"?

When I went to Singapore the year before the immigration guy at the counter did not even look at my passport as he stamped it, he smiled at me and said "Welcome to Singapore, enjoy your stay".
