Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

[In Australia,] State's upper house drags feet in passing law legalising abortion despite an overwhelming 75-percent support by voters.

The Reproductive Health Care Act 2019, which seeks to bring the state in line with the rest of Australia, would allow abortion up to 22 weeks. It was passed by the state lower house in August, with 59 votes in favour and 31 against.  The bill's backers say the change will protect women and reduce some of the stigma associated with the procedure, but the legislation has attracted intense debate and national attention.

Barnaby Joyce, a former deputy prime minister, claimed the bill ignored the rights of unborn children and, at an anti-abortion rights rally over the weekend, former prime minister Tony Abbott alleged the move to decriminalise would enable "infanticide on demand".

Terminations have existed in a legal grey area - allowed for health or economic reasons, but still carrying a risk of prosecution. "We need to take abortion out of the Crimes Act and give women autonomy over their decisions," Family Planning NSW Medical Director Dr Deborah Bateson told Al Jazeera.

A survey released this month by Pro-Choice NSW showed that more than 77 percent of the state's residents support decriminalisation.

Nope, those conservatives dragging their feet are just posturing - the NSW Liberal Party (which is actually conservative) are experiencing some internal (intestinal?) power fights right now, and the challengers need a pretext [abc.net.au]. But they don't have enough numbers for a full rebellion [abc.net.au]

Anecdotally, in the good ol' Oz spirit, the power fight gets physical on occasions [abc.net.au]

A New South Wales Liberal Party meeting has seen one man hospitalised after a brawl broke out at a cafe in Sydney's south.

A senior Liberal Party source said the clash was "unprecedented" and a "tragic internal shit fight brought about by the pettiness of politics".
    ...
The function turned ugly when members started fighting over the body in charge of selecting councillors.

The eyewitness, who does not want to be identified for fear of reprisals, said the outsiders were from Sydney's south-west.

"[They] purposefully tried to branch stack us with people from the Bankstown-Canterbury region," he said.
    ...
One witness, who did not want to be identified, described the situation as an attempted "hostile takeover" of the branch.

"Just before the meeting started, there was an altercation where some people were intimidating and swearing and pushing and shoving of the others who belonged to the meeting," he said.

"Others outside were blocked from entering the meeting."

The man said an elderly lady inside the cafe was "trampled on", and a man who tried to intervene was "ganged up on".

      Contradiction in terms detected.
If it's laisser-faire (liberal), then it's not regulated thus not safe for work guaranteed.
