Arthur T Knackerbracket has found the following story:

[In Australia,] State's upper house drags feet in passing law legalising abortion despite an overwhelming 75-percent support by voters.

The Reproductive Health Care Act 2019, which seeks to bring the state in line with the rest of Australia, would allow abortion up to 22 weeks. It was passed by the state lower house in August, with 59 votes in favour and 31 against.  The bill's backers say the change will protect women and reduce some of the stigma associated with the procedure, but the legislation has attracted intense debate and national attention.

Barnaby Joyce, a former deputy prime minister, claimed the bill ignored the rights of unborn children and, at an anti-abortion rights rally over the weekend, former prime minister Tony Abbott alleged the move to decriminalise would enable "infanticide on demand".

Terminations have existed in a legal grey area - allowed for health or economic reasons, but still carrying a risk of prosecution. "We need to take abortion out of the Crimes Act and give women autonomy over their decisions," Family Planning NSW Medical Director Dr Deborah Bateson told Al Jazeera.

A survey released this month by Pro-Choice NSW showed that more than 77 percent of the state's residents support decriminalisation.

I don't see why Bible thumpers are against abortion and infanticide. Even Jesus said that children are not under judgment, so golden ticket to heaven. Don't they want all those innocents to go to heaven rather than grow up and become heads of Facebook, Amazon, Oracle, Google, Twitter, or president of the United States or Prince of Saudi Arabia?

Actually, the only folks saying children are innocent (of sin) are those who don't read their Bible or are speaking from a different context. The Bible clearly teaches we were born in to sin.
An example might be: No one needs to teach a child to steal. But we spend a lot of time teaching them not to steal.

I'll toss a couple of snippets from the Bible, mostly from the Old testament since most folks have it in their head that God magically changed when He sent His son and before, that, he was a war-making backwards mongrel. (Aka putting me at a perceived disadvantage in secular eyes)

      John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

      Psalm 123:3:
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

      Exodus 21:22-2
“When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is no harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined, as the woman's husband shall impose on him, and he shall pay as the judges determine. But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

      Genesis 25:23
And the Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.”

      Psalm 113:9
He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children.

God is ALL about life, love, and joy. Even while in the womb he sees their future. Any Christian who advocates for the killing of children is not following God and does not know Him.

Damn right it does, because that way we're in debt to the religious establishment from the minute we're born. Jews and Muslims have it much better, they're not automatically guilty from the minute they arrive in the world. Having said that, Christians don't need to use Shabbat elevators, so both sides have their advantages.

It also teaches that God wants your wife to drink poison if you suspect her of cheating. And, if she is, He will abort the baby she is carrying.

First, as an atheist I don't worry about what a bunch of superstitious texts say. However, if he'll is defined as being absent from Gods presence, and heaven is being condemned to worshiping an arbitrary, capricious, judgmental god, I'll take hell every time.

If your god only loves those who believe and worship it, your god is doing it wrong.

Love is not conditional. Too bad your god doesn't get it. Or give it. But then again the whole concept of a god who can influence any part of the universe, even a teeny weeny bit, without being detectable, is superstitious nonsense, same as all the other gods that came before.
