A story notes that

[...] according to a new U.S. Army report, Americans could face a horrifically grim future from climate change involving blackouts, disease, thirst, starvation and war. The study found that the US military itself might also collapse. This could all happen over the next two decades, the report notes.

[...] The report paints a frightening portrait of a country falling apart over the next 20 years due to the impacts of climate change on "natural systems such as oceans, lakes, rivers, ground water, reefs, and forests.

Current infrastructure in the US, the report says, is woefully underprepared: "Most of the critical infrastructures identified by the Department of Homeland Security are not built to withstand these altered conditions."

And never the opposite. What makes anyone think you can appease the soulless laws of nature with sacrifice and self-abuse??? This is medieval religion, folks.

Shaking worms out the corpse of rabid Puritanism, relabeling the vengeful central deity "teh Environment", parading the zombie out and calling the charade "progressism"; the irony is endless.

We've had the better tech for a good 3-4 decades now. Deliberate greed, with a dash of religious insanity of the "Bible says no more floods, ergo global warming is false" type, is stopping it from happening. A few people are getting tremendously wealthy off of deliberately holding back thorium, solar in both thermal-concentration and PV forms, wind, you name it.

They want to wait until "the market says the time is right," but by then, it'll be too late. Optimistically speaking it'll involve a hell of a lot of pain and inefficiency and lowered standards of living; more likely, with a billion or so climate refugees displaced, hungry, frightened, and angry, all of civilization will get hit hard.

I think your billion of refugees is woefully underestimated.

We can't expect a newbie AC to know, plus I kind of do talk "like a guy." Lots of active voice, not too many cutesy mannerisms, etc.

There is a clue in your .sig though. Having said that, not everything said in the first person in people's .sigs should be taken as verbatim facts.

Hint: it is not "the deniers".
The mental technique people use to be luddites while calling themselves "progressive", to pretend acting "for environment" while fighting nuclear power tooth and nail and "not noticing" the coal-fired replacement, to scream about "science!!!11" when incapable of simple math; it got a nice name: "doublethink". Enjoy.
