Google buys Fitbit for $2.1 billion

It's official: Google is buying Fitbit. The company announced the move in a blog post this morning, and reports say the deal is worth $2.1 billion.

Google's SVP of hardware, Rick Osterloh, posted an announcement of the acquisition on Google's blog, saying the move was "an opportunity to invest even more in Wear OS as well as introduce Made by Google wearable devices into the market."

This is the second time this year Google has made an acquisition aimed at bolstering Wear OS, having previously purchased an unknown technology from Fossil Group for $40 million.

I had a fitbit for a brief time, 6 months, until the band broke, and the back-up band broke two weeks after that. It was so irritating trying to get that company to replace it that I ditched it entirely.

Now this announcement makes me regret ever using it at all. Get your hands off my data, you damn, dirty ape, Google!

It's also the reason why I have not used those DNA sequencing companies, as much as I would like to know what's in my code.

We need to build our own stuff, and share the data with no one.

Look at all these idiots sending in their DNA to ancestry.com, and then the government is breaking down their door and hauling their ass away for a crime they could have otherwise gotten away with. 😧
