FDA expected to ban most flavored e-cigarette pods:

All flavored e-cigarette pods except menthol and tobacco are expected to be banned by the Food and Drug Administration, which could announce the plans this week, according to the Wall Street Journal and [The] New York Times.

The flavored pod ban would be a step back from the nearly complete flavored vape ban the Trump administration initially floated back in September, as lung injuries from vaping were on the rise. There are two notable changes: menthol flavoring would be allowed, in addition to tobacco; and the flavor ban would only be applied to pods — flavored nicotine liquids could still be sold for open tank systems, according to the reports.

The ban is meant to curb the rise in teenage vaping. Because open systems are seen as less popular among teens, the administration is focusing on pods — like those used by Juul — which are believed to be driving teen usage. The exemption is also a response to some odd political pushback: after the initial call for a broad flavor ban, vaping groups claimed that such a ban would hurt President Trump electorally in 2020. The messaging apparently worked.

[...]   Juul has already stopped selling all flavored pods except menthol and tobacco in anticipation of the ban, but the ban would still cut out flavored pods from competitors, like Njoy, which offers watermelon and blueberry nicotine pods.

The first rule of commerce used to be do not kill your customers, it is bad for business.

That's the GREAT thing about e-cigs, even JUUL, they are less harmful than cigarettes so they can get their users hooked at age 15 and continue to sell them 100 puffs a day until they're 75... well, most of 'em anyway, the death rate is really a whole lot lower than burning leaves.

The thing that convinces me that JUUL is full evil is that they don't even offer low or non nicotine options in their proprietary pods, but they do offer kid-friendly flavors in kid-friendly colors, or did while they could at least.

You're assuming that the method of vaping is healthier than smoking. That remains to be seen, and there has not been nearly enough data to reach a conclusion. This is not convection vaping either, but the burning of oils (substances), perfumes, additives, etc. Sounds like the damage from vaping is even more extreme than that of regular smoking. Seeing as how this has only been around a few years, it's not hard to understand that it's only now that the real effects are surfacing.

Give it 10 years and then see what medical science says about it.

In the meantime though, it seems to be a highly unregulated place full of assumptions and optimism. Until there is a much clearer statement of safety, with a lot of data backing it up, I'm not vaping cannabis oils anymore.

That remains to be seen, and there has not been nearly enough data to reach a conclusion.

While I agree with you in principle, I also agree with the UK health service in practice: vaping has unknown health consequences, but the early data says that it's a whole lot less likely to cause harm than smoking tobacco in cigarettes, cigars, pipes, etc. Therefore: if you've got a nicotine addiction, please do try to switch to the (most likely) more healthy alternative.

Vaping, of some substances, will no doubt be harmful to some people, and just like my Great Grandmother who chewed tobacco until she was 96 years old... it will be harmless to others.

The cynic in me says that the recent deaths tied to vaping of street sold THC liquids very may have been perpetrated by "those" who would wish to see vaping become less popular than it was about to be. Of course simple stupidity is another viable explanation, but lacking evidence one way or the other, I'll go with Schrodinger's cat on this one: it's both until I hear otherwise.
