NASA is definitely keeping an open mind when it comes to naming its Mars 2020 rover. It may end up being as simple as "Wonder" or as unusual as "Propulsion Major Crater."

NASA announced on Monday the list of semifinalists for its rover-naming contest, which was open to US kids from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Volunteer judges narrowed down 28,000 essay submissions to 155 semifinalists. There are some repeats among the proposed names, with Tenacity, Determination, Ingenuity, Inspiration, Possibility, Perspective and Perseverance showing up more than once.

I think they should call it "Red Rover".

    I supported boaty back then. It makes me cringe now.

    Difference? Kind of a weird thing - I got to work a job where formality was optimal. I was working with people as a leader, but under no specific dress code myself. I thought this was awesome and everyday would be t-shirt and jeans or shorts day. But in practice it felt somehow disrespectful. I used to despise what I thought was pretext or signaling, but I found I was not really dressing for myself but as a matter of showing respect for the people I was working with and especially above. They knew nothing about me and so all they could judge me on was appearances. Starting from a -10 for sake of some comfort and my personal proclivities was dumb. I think this changed my view on appearances in general.
