A UK supermarket has banned the use of money that was stored in shoes and bras as part of the effort to reign in the spread of COVID-19. Among other strange facts coming out of this outbreak is that some people lick their money before handing it over to the cashier.

We are doomed.

[Ed Note - Updated the story to reflect that the store is called Iceland and is, in fact, a UK supermarket.]

If I've had money stored in a shoe, or a bra, a mattress, or a Mason jar buried under the mulberry tree - that money has not been exposed to a person who has been exposed to this relatively new virus.

Unless of course, the person wearing the shoe or bra has this relatively new virus. Then there's more potential contact with the virus than if they had stuck it in a wallet which tends either to be lower moisture and/or not in a place likely to collect cough/sneeze spittle. And licking the money? I know a couple of people who would lick their fingers while counting money (higher tactile friction). But licking the money itself? Really... licking the money?

Contact doesn't suffice. It requires contact with mucous membranes, or stuff from the mucous membrane, to be a problem. The bra or shoe should be safe unless they've licked the money.

Go on, just try convincing us that someone can put on a bra without touching it or their breasts with their hands. I ain't slept with a woman yet who didn't do some fit adjusting in the morning, except one who wasn't wearing a bra in the first place.

Shoes... entirely gross under any circumstances. Don't need no pandemic for that to be wrong.

or stuff from the mucous membrane, to be a problem.

Well, there you go. Sneezing and coughing over that bra (almost surely going to be a fabric too, which can keep coronavirus alive for days) should cover that condition in more ways than one. This is in addition to handling the money.
