'A game changer': FDA authorizes Abbott Labs' portable, 5-minute coronavirus test the size of a toaster:

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued Emergency Use Authorization to Illinois-based medical device maker Abbott Labs on Friday for a coronavirus test that delivers positive results in as little as five minutes and negative results in 13 minutes, the company said.

The company expects the tests to be available next week and expects to ramp up manufacturing to deliver 50,000 tests per day.

"I am pleased that the FDA authorized Abbott's point-of-care test yesterday. This is big news and will help get more of these tests out in the field rapidly," FDA Commissioner Steve Hahn said in a statement. "We know how important it is to get point-of-care tests out in the field quickly. These tests that can give results quickly can be a game changer in diagnosing COVID-19."

Scott Gottlieb, former FDA commissioner, echoed Hahn's comments on Twitter, calling the development a "game changer." Gottlieb also said it's "very likely" that we'll see additional approvals of point-of-care diagnostics behind this one, extending testing to doctor offices across the U.S.

The test is not what allowed South Korea to get back to work. What has let them go back to work is that they realize what the US has forgotten, that the business of the country is business.

    No, you fucking dipshit.

What allowed South Korea to get back to work was that they all cooperated early, had a decent medical system, and flattened the shit out the curve.

It was their success against the virus that allowed them to get back to work. Guess if adequate testing capacity was a part of that?

We don't learn from our history. Greedy dumb bastards like you, that were also willing to risk lives for money, delayed doing the right thing nearly 100 years ago. Cities that enacted measures early had less dead, cities that listened to the greed and tried to keep the economy going had the worst outcomes.

With all due respect, we don't need to shit now for the economy. All the parasitic mother fuckers at the top just got their bailout, and main street is fucked again. The rich and Elites are just fine, so they can shut their fucking squawk boxes about us going to back work taking all the risks while they take 90% of the money.

Exactly. TESTING, TESTING, TESTING is Step 1. Everyone fucking complying with distance, washing and disinfecting, is Step 2. Tracking ALL the cases of the virus and going away with the notion of medical privacy for the greater good of society is Step 3. South Korea did all this.

You miss one of the steps, you are not doing enough to be successful against a virus. And ALL the Steps are important because at any given time, one of the good guys temporarily can become of the agents of delivery of this disease without knowing. Without testing, we don't know who is the delivery agent. Without Step 3, we don't know who is NOT complying and staying the fuck home and infecting more people. Without Step 2, you get much more chance of getting sick.

The rich and Elites are just fine, so they can shut their fucking squawk boxes about us going to back work taking all the risks while they take 90% of the money.

Exactly. The economy will be just fine. The way we measure economy, as a flow of money (GDP), is just fucked up and wrong on many many levels. So as soon money stops flowing, the rich assholes freak out instead of understanding the situation. Half of the economy is in PAUSE mode. So the next 1 or 2 Quarter numbers will look like shit. So what??

Just like 9/11 was a great time to do away with all of our freedoms!

That cure is worse than the disease, by far.
