Bosses Panic-Buy Spy Software to Keep Tabs on Remote Workers
Phones are ringing off the hook at companies providing a bit of Big Brother.

The email came from the boss.

We're watching you, it told Axos Financial Inc. employees working from home. We're capturing your keystrokes. We're logging the websites you visit. Every 10 minutes or so, we're taking a screen shot.

So get to work — or face the consequences.

[...] Workers at various companies have complained of excesses, but many of them are new to telecommuting, with its temptations of a midday nap or the demands of children out of school. Employers justify going full Orwell by saying that monitoring curbs security breaches, which can be expensive, and helps keep the wheels of commerce turning.

Breaches can result in disciplinary action up to and greatly in excess of mere termination.

In October 2007, the company named Gregory Garrabrants as CEO, who was head of corporate development at IndyMac Bancorp at the time. IndyMac failed the next year as the "fourth largest bank failure in the United States."

In March 2019, Axos Financial acquired the robo-advisory platform WiseBanyan. The unit has since been renamed Axos Invest and as of early 2020 is keeping the "free" business model originally designed by the start-up's founders. According to the investor presentation, Axos plans to use WiseBanyan to mine more personal data about its client base.

In April 2019, it was reported that the Axos CEO, Greg Garrabrants, earned $34.5 million, making him the highest paid bank CEO of 2018, despite Axos being 250x smaller than banks such as JPMorgan.

Maybe the CEO needs a 24/7 surveilance, i mean, that's a lot of money. He can't have any down time.

      It was him, actually.

In March 2020, the Axos CEO, Greg Garrabrants, emailed employees to let them know he had instructed his IT team to install spying software on everyone's computer (excluding his own) to make sure they were indeed working from home during the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

I have no pity for Axos lackeys employees, for they themselves were instrumental in WiseBanyan clients data mining affair at least.
      I call that quick karma.
