Dolly Parton secretly produced Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and fans have only just found out:

While Parton was not herself credited as a producer on the long-running fantasy series, a company she co-created and owned was responsible for it coming to television.

Sandollar Entertainment, which is listed on the end credits of every episode of the show, was created by Parton and her friend and former business partner Sandy Gallin in 1986. It produced a number of films, including Father of the Bride (1991) and Fly Away Home (1996), as well as several Parton projects – most recently her Netflix anthology series Dolly Parton's Heartstrings.

It also produced the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, released in 1992 to dismal reviews. It was Gail Berman, then an executive at Sandollar, who still believed there was potential in the property, and proposed launching the concept as a TV series.

    It might be obvious to others who is more up to date than me, but why does Buffy bubble right now in the nerd-o-sphere? Would be nice to know instead of the subliminal influencer stuff to know if something new was on its way. Modern crowdadvertising is annoying as hell, I'd rather get the info straight up so that I can choose "interested", "not interested", instead of being groomed and prepared to be suceptible to a new product.

    Buffy was always fairly popular, but some kind of reboot [wikipedia.org] is in the works.

      Not really a reboot, more like "Buffy: TNG." While there are some reasons to worry (namely that all the recycled nerd culture stuff has turned out to be awful), this is its own thing done by different people and should be judged on its own merits. The new showrunner is actually a fan of the original (imagine that!) and while Joss Whedon isn't involved day to day, it's being done with his blessing and advice.

      However, I haven't really heard anything about it since 2018. There's no imdb entry or, as far as I can tell, any casting or script. It might be a dead project.
