US Space Force debuts first recruitment ad and previously secret spacecraft:

"Maybe your purpose on this planet isn't on this planet."

That is the tagline accompanying the US Space Force's recruiting ad that appeared on Twitter on Wednesday.

The 30-second commercial is a montage of young people looking to the stars, intercut with images of rockets rising from monolith-like hangars, all colour graded the familiar teal and orange of blockbuster action movies.

[...] In addition to the expected military recruitment fare included in the video [...] the ad also includes the first official glimpse of the X37-B reusable space vehicle.

I have to admit, if I were around high school age now, I'd be very interested in joining the Space Force. It's the fucking Space Force!

And I would be just as cruelly disillusioned by the reality, too, if I'd joined. I worked as a civilian for the Air Force for a couple of years. Mundane and boring sum it up. I met an NCO who told me he's job for the last 20 years was filling out the same form. They print the year the form was last updated at the bottom of the form; it was literally unchanged for over 20 years. Since the Space Force is going to be "under" the Air Force (as the Marines are "under" the Navy), I'm sure the tedium and maddening boredom will be all too similar.

Sometimes I'm glad I'm too odd for this shit.
