The Genesis II Church of Health and Healing has been claiming chlorine dioxide is a "miracle cure".

For years it has sold the industrial bleach as Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), stating it can cure things like autism, acne, cancer, diabetes and now COVID-19.

[...] Following an investigation [...] last week, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) today announced it had issued 12 infringement notices totalling $151,200 to MMS Australia for alleged unlawful advertising of Miracle Mineral Solution and other medicines.

... still a long way to injecting it, right? But maybe that's for The Genesis III Church of Health and Healing

So the "bleach" these articles are referring to is chlorine dioxide, a disinfectant and industrial bleaching agent. It's not sodium hypochlorite, which is commonly referred to as just "bleach" by the unbleached masses. So while you are still an idiot for drinking it, referring to it as bleach in headlines is like referring to goat's milk as just "milk" in a similar situation.

So the "bleach" these articles are referring to is chlorine dioxide...

"Bleach" is a generic term for things that...well...bleach stuff.

Bleach is the generic name for any chemical product which is used industrially and domestically to clean, and to remove stains. [wikipedia.org]
bleach - noun - a strong chemical used for cleaning things or removing color from things [cambridge.org]

referring to it as bleach in headlines is like referring to goat's milk as just "milk" in a similar situation.

They're not calling it plain bleach, though. They're calling it "industrial bleach," which is accurate since it's mostly used in industry. (bleaching of wood pulp for example [wikipedia.org])

Stop playing dense, you know damn well what 99% of people think you are talking about when you say "bleach" and you know damn well that was my point. You are making an argument just for the sake of being contrarian and overly pedantic. As for "industrial bleach" go ask 100 chemists or chemical engineers what the chemical name of "industrial bleach" is and you will probably get about 100 different answers. And exactly 0 of them would refer to chlorine dioxide as "bleach". A bleach, yes, but just "bleach" no, they would never use it in a manor where it could be confused with something else.

Kinda like sodium chloride (common table salt) is a salt. "Salt" is a generic word that refers to many, many compounds that are the result of the chemical reaction between an acid and a base.

The headline is "Church in Australia selling bleach as a Coronavirus treatment fined $151,200." What alternative would you suggest to that which doesn't contain "bleach" but stays within the recommended length of 60-80 characters and 6-8 occurrences of the major parts of speech?

If you look on the opening frame of the clip on top of the FA, you'll see on the bottom of the label "Contains 22.4% NaClO2". Yes, not your laundry bleach, just a more potent oxidizing agent in higher concentration.

Yes, sodium chlorite, which they react with acid (that they sell as an "activator") to make.... chlorine dioxide. NaClO2 + HOCl + HCl -> 2ClO2 + H2O

So, instead of "got milk?", it would be "got goat?"

As a matter of fact, I got goat!! The two puppies mouthing on my feet are getting fat on it!

That was probably a "gout" joke. It is very common in older males with diets high in red meat and beer. Might want to consider asking his doctor for a glucocorticoid injection, if so.
