Man charged for shooting down drone:

Travis Duane Winters, 34, of Butterfield, was charged with criminal damage to property and reckless discharge of a weapon within city limits Monday in Watonwan County District Court.

A sheriff’s deputy was called Friday to a disturbance at Butterfield Foods. A man said he was flying over the food production company to capture images of the chickens that were being “slaughtered” because of the pandemic.

The suspect admitted to using a shotgun to shoot down the drone — which was valued at $1,900.

I have no idea what you're talking about officer. It must have just crashed. Did that nice gentleman have an FAA permit to fly that drone? He could have hurt someone crashing his drone on our property like that.

He was overflying a farm, to show the ugly side of things. This is a little skirmish in a long running battle that includes, on one side: activists taking jobs at operations to expose illegal and/or unsavory practices. On the other side? Powerful corporate interests bribing legislatures to enact "ag gag" laws that would make it criminal to show what goes on at their operations.

I won't go so far as to say that one side is angels and the other devils; but when you are buying off the government to conceal your actions, what does that say about you?

when you are buying off the government to conceal your actions, what does that say about you?

It says you have a willingness to influence legislation?

Not defending either side, but they are both using the tools at their disposal.. some clandestine, some open, some legal, some not..

One person's lobbying is another person's corruption.. all about degree of influence.. take someone out to lunch? Pay for advertising for re-election? Handing over cash? Different countries/cultures have different rules and expectations..

...when you are buying off the government to conceal your actions, what does that say about you?

Far more importantly, what does it say about the government?
