FreeBSD has announced a new LLVM-derived code of conduct.

According to a 2018 survey "35% were dissatisfied with the code of conduct adopted in 2018, 34% were neutral, and 30% were satisfied." So, they held another survey at the start start of June:

Which code of conduct should FreeBSD adopt?

Retain the current code of conduct:
https://web.archive.org/web/20200108075747/https://www.freebsd.org/internal/code-of-conduct.html

RESULTS

  • 4% favoured keeping the current code of conduct
  • 33% favoured the Go-derived code of conduct
  • 63% favoured the LLVM-derived code of conduct.

Thus, the Core Team, following the preference of a majority of active
FreeBSD developers, adopted the LLVM-derived code of conduct.

one thing i don't like about some of these CoCs is the way they are written to require positive action instead of detailing negative actions that won't be tolerated. Sure it sounds better, but is more open to abusive enforcement in the long run and the paranoid in me says this was on purpose. Like Be Welcoming, for instance. At first, they will just enforce that people aren't mean. Later, they will enforce that you didn't sufficiently suck up to the exalted classes like trans, darkies, people that think they are aliens, etc.

Just look at the movie "Office Space" and the "flair quota". That's a good start for what the future will look like.

“About four years after Office Space came out, TGI Fridays got rid of all that (button) flair, because people would come in and make cracks about it,” reveals Judge. “One of my ADs asked once at the restaurant why their flair was missing and they said they removed it because of that movie Office Space. So, maybe I made the world a better place.”

Every time I'm told something like I should "be welcoming", I think to myself, "Well, I didn't disembowel you on first sight, how much more welcoming do you need?"

(my spellchecker never knows how to correctly spell words like "disembowel" for some reason)
