HBO Max Temporarily Removes ‘Gone With the Wind’ From Library

An HBO Max spokesperson says “Gone With the Wind” will eventually return to the platform with a discussion about its historical context and a denouncement of its racist depictions.

On Tuesday, HBO Max removed the 1939 film from its library in the wake of protests over the death of George Floyd.

[...] Upon its release, “Gone With the Wind” broke theater attendance records and was the highest-grossing film of all time to that point. It still holds the record when adjusted for inflation. However, despite being considered one of the greatest films of all time, some film commentators have since criticized its depiction of slavery and Black people.

I've no idea why this still has to be hammered home to people. Political flip as I stated above [soylentnews.org] and have been trying to explain to people since 2015.

From last year, it's all of this [twitter.com]

No we’ve become the church lady as person below says. It’s embarrassing. We’re offended by comedy and science. It’s pathetic.

I recently finished Bret Easton Ellis' book "White" (audiobook format) and it was a most incredible rant. I'd be driving along listening and just blurt out "YES" so many times -- absolutely loved it. Anyway, fun book (except for those in the McResistance).

On a camping holiday with 2 girls in the tent next to me, one night I got to a chapter in a book I was reading called "Child Killing at the Zoo" and had to bury my face in my pillow to mute my laughter in case they heard and asked me what I was laughing at. I told a friend about it and word got back to the girls who'd both read American Psycho and thought it was funny too. Nice girls I recall, 20 minutes solid crying into my pillow and they couldn't have given shit.

      I'll check this one out.
