Fox News published digitally altered and misleading photos on stories about Seattle's Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) in what photojournalism experts called a clear violation of ethical standards for news organizations.
As part of a package of stories Friday about the zone, where demonstrators have taken over several city blocks on Capitol Hill after Seattle police abandoned the East Precinct, Fox's website for much of the day featured a photo of a man standing with a military-style rifle in front of what appeared to be a smashed retail storefront.
The image was actually a mashup of photos from different days, taken by different photographers — it was done by splicing a Getty Images photo of an armed man, who had been at the protest zone June 10, with other images from May 30 of smashed windows in downtown Seattle. Another altered image combined the gunman photo with yet another image, making it appear as though he was standing in front of a sign declaring "You are now entering Free Cap Hill."
[...] The image, as displayed on the Fox News website, was spliced with other photos, including a photo of a smashed retail storefront in May, making it look as though the scene was all playing out concurrently in the autonomous zone. "It is definitely Photoshopped," confirmed Ryder. "To use a photo out of context in a journalistic setting like that seems unethical."
[...] "I think it's disgraceful propaganda and terribly misrepresentative of documentary journalism in times like this, when truth-telling and accountability is so important," said Kenny Irby, a photojournalism ethics educator and consultant. "There is no attribution. There is no acknowledgment of the montage, and it's terribly misleading."
Akili Ramsess, executive director of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), said ethical standards clearly prohibit alteration of photos in news accounts.

But also pretty pointless. There are plenty of non-doctored, genuine videos showing armed guards at the entrances, some with pistols, some with assault rifles.
It's unethical, but understandable, to produce a fake photo to spread a lie, but incredibly unhelpful to produce one to tell the truth. Everyone will focus on the fabrication and you will end up convincing people of the opposite, not to mention damaging your credibility (though everyone has already made up their minds about Fox News).
Even this guy was actually there, he just wasn't where or when they made it look like he was.

Of course there are people with guns. Because open carry is *legal* in Washington State [wikipedia.org]. You don't even need a license.'
You're complaining about citizens legally exercising their rights.
Why are you insinuating that law-abiding citizens are anything other than that? I guess when your narrative doesn't track with reality, you trot out the lies instead of accepting reality.
What have we learned? That you're a disingenuous prick who cares nothing for facts or reality if it doesn't comport with your world view.
Fuck off jackass.

Good old left wingers! Deny things exist, then when it turns out they do, suddenly switch to minimizing and excusing. Then call the truth "lies" and fling some baseless insults. The only thing you can count on liberals for is antisocial behavior and a complete vacancy of thought.
Open carry is legal. You know what's not legal? Violent assaults, threatening and denying other citizens those rights, excluding people you don't like from public streets, shaking down businesses for protection money, mass destruction of property... you know, all the stuff that these armed people are doing. You have the right to carry a weapon for self defense. You don't have the right to use them to threaten, abuse, and extort others.
Kind of funny, a month ago when armed protesters marched in Wisconsin, all the liberals cried about what a racist double standard there was and how that sort of thing would never be tolerated from black protesters. Then, suddenly, actual black protesters not only carry weapons, but their leader sets himself up as a "warlord," threatens the police, extorts people for money, violently beats people for the crime of "disrespect," beats the crap out of his girlfriend too just to feel like a big man, but turns out he's untouchable just because he's black. Racist double standard? You bet. Just not the one liberals like to pretend there is.

How very rabid of you. I applaud your attempt to change the subject. It's not a very good one, but points for effort.
Except you're repeating claims that have been shown to be untrue. At best, that's ignorance. At worst a bald-faced *lie*.
It seems that folks committing violent acts are being arrested and charged for their alleged crimes [dailymail.co.uk].
Any violence should be treated as the criminal actions they are, and the perpetrators should be charged and tried. Who (including the protestors) has said anything else?
It seems to me that police announcing over their radios that 'heavily armed white supremacists' were on their way to confront the protestors [twitter.com] is a reason to break out weapons for self-defense.

So I'll pull out an old chestnut and say you're talking out of your ass and it smells that way too.
