https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2020/06/21/pinal-county-sheriff-mark-lamb-positive-covid-19-enforce-mask/3232821001/

During a Saturday phone interview with The Arizona Republic of the USA TODAY Network, Sheriff Mark Lamb said the White House called him on June 13 and asked that he be present when Trump signed an executive order that would hold law enforcement to a higher standard when they used force.

Lamb said he flew into Washington Monday evening and visited the White House Tuesday when he tested positive for COVID-19. He later visited an infirmary and was tested a second time, which also came back positive.

"I was surprised," Lamb said regarding the positive test result. "I mean, if I looked back, I would say that I was a little rundown from, you know, a long weekend. But I didn't have any symptoms."

[...] Lamb said he likely contracted COVID-19 at a campaign event he held on June 13, He initially planned for it to be a "come pick up a yard sign" event, but more people showed up than anticipated.

[...] However, Lamb said he didn't wear a mask or practice social distancing at the campaign event and estimated that the majority of the 200 people who attended the event in San Tan Valley, Arizona, weren't wearing masks either.

He intends to self-quarantine throughout the end of the month.

When asked if he planned to hold more public events once his self-isolation was complete, Lamb said he probably wouldn't and that he's not trying to put people at risk. That said, Lamb will likely continue to not wear a mask when out in public.

"When I come back out, I don't like to wear masks," Lamb said. "And I respect people's personal choices to not wear a mask."

    Let's see...

+ contact with many of the people at his AZ campaign event
+ people on his flights to and from Washington including airport staff
+ people (with possible exception of the labs that tested him for CV) he met in Washington
+ his family (I wonder if he has any elderly or other compromised relatives)
    + his staff

Certainly looks like a super spreader to me. What are the chances his phone had a contact tracing app?

That is the real problem right here. That he is zooming around and in close contact with so many people. While masks aren't useless, they are over rated - even if he had been wearing a mask at all times, he very well may have gotten sick via the nasty break room ice dispenser or some such. And then all these people are still at risk.

Wearing makes is problematic for those who need to be seen and heard. I still find it hilarious how news anchors sound like South Park's Kenny now. Hmmm mmf mmmh mmf mmf mmmmmhmm hmmmph!

Masks are not over rated...if you read what experts have been saying.... multi layered cloth mask reduces the risk of spreading from a contaminated person ...barely reduces the risk of catching it

Aerosol spread is the major form of transmission...touching surfaces and objects not so much.

So be patriotic ...wear a mask not to save yourself but most probably save somebody else if you are an assymptomatic spreader

Yes, that's exactly it, and I'm not sure why people know who won the 1997 Super Bowl, but they can't get simple things right like why people need to wear masks out in public.

Yesterday I listened to an interview / presentation by a major university hospital's professor / epidemiologist / bio-statistician. He confirmed everything I believe / know about COVID-19 (like most here know) but he added something I find alarming:

A person can have no symptoms, test negative, yet have the virus and be contagious.

That is why the world is having so much trouble with this disease. We're still learning- the whole world- medical, govt., everyone.

Very unnecessarily harsh words FatPhil. I'm just trying to be helpful here (at SN). Is there some reason you're "triggered"??

Not sure why you're so angrily competitive, but I hope you find some peace somehow. Maybe you can explain your perspective? Even if USA had ZERO COVID-19 cases, we would still consider it 1) a world problem, and 2) as we always do, try to help as much as we can.

I'm relatively new to online discussions like this one. Okay, I've been reading them for many years, but your response is exactly why I stayed out. Came here and engage because it seemed like people here were sane, civil, and mostly polite. However, this site has degraded into flamewars and warded off many good people.

When I see a post I don't agree with, or don't understand, I move on. My ego isn't so big as to think I can read the person's mind and know his/her intent and perspective. I figure none of us are award-winning writers. I am certainly anything but, and attacks like yours will certainly keep me from posting here.

Dude, chill out. You're way over-reacting. I'm not a writer, sorry if you don't like my less than stellar jottings here on SN. Just take things in context and stride.

Try to learn to take in the good, and move past the bad. I'm genuinely sad for you that you dwell on something you didn't fully understand, took it some way you think I meant it, and have to amplify it. Maybe get some help, or try some relaxation meditation or something.

At this point you're probably correct; despite COVID-19, I have less free time on my hands than usual, so little focus here (things SN, etc.)

My only reason for posting, which should be obvious but I'll spell it out: you wrote:

Yet you dared to speak for the whole freaking world?

and my post with the NYT link is to show you that I wasn't "speaking" for the "entire freaking world" as you so eloquently put it- I was just reflecting a widely-held understanding.

If you truly live in a country that knows all about COVID-19 and how to mitigate it, then maybe your country should share with the rest of the world and help others.

That's not patriotic. Being a patriot means refusing to wear a mask. That's what all the true patriots do. President Trump doesn't wear a mask, so you shouldn't either, because if you do, you're disagreeing with him, which is traitorous. Any true conservative knows this.
