The Federal Communications Commission is helping Charter avoid broadband competition in New York State with a decision that will block government funding for other ISPs in locations where Charter is required to build.

The FCC plans to award ISPs up to $16 billion over 10 years from the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF) in a reverse auction scheduled to begin in October. The FCC said in an announcement yesterday that it "granted Charter Communications' waiver request to exclude 2,127 census blocks in New York from the eligible areas list because the company will deploy broadband in those locations pursuant to a settlement reached with the State of New York."

Separately, the FCC denied a Frontier Communications request to exclude nearly 17,000 census blocks in parts of 29 states from the auction.

The telecom's well trained bitch, is going to take care of the telecoms.

It would be good if congress were to neuter that bitch - figuratively, literally, or both. Send the now-unneeded biological matter to Trump, as a souvenir.

When he starts to run out of money from telecom lobbyists, he's a bitch smart enough to take care of one telecom at a time.

    You know, like in:

... granted Charter Communications' waiver request...
... denied a Frontier Communications request to exclude...

Surely no bribes were paid for this outcome, the arguments are logical.
As other logical arguments could be found for the reverse too, so that's just a matter of choic... err, make it "decision".

      Well...

I suspect that this bribe is more likely in the form of whichever commission that is expected to retire next now has a guarantee of a do nothing job making millions for Charter.

Most likely this is a republican... not just because they are renowned for that (in reality, both sides play this same game;) But, on the assumption that Biden gets elected in November, it means that the FCC will end up getting a new Democrat for a commissioner and one of the Republitards will be out of a job.

Well, there are nuances, for sure.

Ajit owes allegiance to someone, or something. He's a telecom guy, and he's not going to hurt the industry, for certain. But, I've never tried to figure out where he comes from within the industry. Surely there are rivalries and maybe even feuds within the industry. Like any other industry, or any other community, you have to have a window inside, to understand who is sleeping with whom, and who wants to stab the other guy in the back.

Logical reasons for decisions? In this republic in which we live, theoretically a democratically ruled republic, decisions should always rely on "what is best for John Q. Public?" Whatever benefits the little guy the most, will surely also benefit the big guys as well.

I go back to the farmer/rancher/sheepherder taking care of his livestock. When the herd is healthy, the farmer is wealthy.

You mean someone else than Ajit or Ajit's interest. I doubt it, I don't think he's that stupid, but again one never knows.

In this republic in which we live, theoretically a democratically ruled republic

That's nice in theory. I wonder if it has been so at anytime in USA's history though.

No, I don't think it's ever been true. The landed gentry always had more say than mobs of commoners. When we shook off the aristocracy and their king, we merely adjusted our definition of aristocratic. It still meant that the wealthy people ruled over the peasants.

It's likely yes, from aristocracy to plutocracy with a facade of democracy.
