NY partygoers get subpoenas after stonewalling COVID-19 contact tracers:

Test, isolate, trace, quarantine: these are the bedrock public health measures proven effective at stamping out an infectious disease before it flares to the point where the only option left is to foist draconian lockdowns on whole populations.

[...] On Wednesday, officials in Rockland County—just north of New York City—reported a cluster of cases linked to a recent party of up to 100 people largely in their early 20s. At the time of the party, the host was infected and had symptoms but held the party anyway.

So far, at least eight attendees have tested positive for the virus. But many partygoers have refused to work with public health officials to track the potential spread and notify others who may have been infected and could go on to spread the disease further.

"We are not receiving the necessary cooperation when we contact those who are positive for COVID-19 or those who have been at some of these gatherings," Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, Rockland County's health commissioner said at a press briefing Wednesday.

She explained:

My staff has been told that a person does not wish to, or have to, speak to my disease investigators. They hang up. They deny being at the party even though we have found their name from another party attendee or a parent provides us with the information. Many do not answer their cell phones and do not call back. Sometimes parents answer for their adult children and promise that they have been home consistently when they have not been.

This must stop.

In response, Ruppert announced that the county will issue subpoenas to anyone who refuses to cooperate with contact tracing. So far, the county is processing eight subpoenas. In addition, those who do not comply will face civil fines of around $2,000 every day they are out of compliance.

Goodbye privacy, it was nice while it lasted.

Yea, ocasionally bad things would happen because "they" couldn't just walk in and see what you were doing. But that was worth the price of freedom. Not any more I guess. Everyone has already gotten used to selling their privacy for 10% off their next purchase and having their cell phones watch them. Time to get rid of the rest.

Privacy is fine, just stay home.

Problem in this case is that a whole bunch of people went out to a party and now don't want anyone to know about it.

Tough. Things you do out in public or even at a "private" party with hundreds of other people are not private, by definition.

Whole bunch of people will probably also be getting subpoenas soon in relation to what they thought were "private" parties with Mr Epstein and Ms Maxwell, some of them have already had their photos from these "private" events splashed all over the Daily Mail. Again, tough. Want privacy? - stay the **** at home. Or go to Pizza Express, cos no one ever sees or photographs you there...

Give me liberty, or give me death is a good principle if you're standing up to an authoritarian dictator. It's a rotten excuse when you're dealing with an infectious disease, because in that case it's not an either-or question.

It's also a hollow statement when you keep voting for an authoritarian dictator. You're gonna need a lot of good men again soon. Pray they won't have died from said infectious disease.

so you can sit on your ass whining about how tragic and indignant it is to simply wear a fucking mask in order to save the lives of yourself and others.

It's interesting how cavalier you are about violations of basic liberties. I suspect it's quite situational, too. Were you shaking your fist at the people who were out protesting without masks or social distancing, how they were spreading coronavirus? If not, if you think that's perfectly OK, but things you have been told not to like are not OK, like going to church or to the beach, then you are not consistent.

Me, I think it's OK to not wear a mask if you don't want to. It's also OK to go to church or to a protest if you want to. By the same token, it's OK for others to cower at home and fearfully steal around outside wearing a mask, if they want to.

Me, I think it's OK to not wear a mask if you don't want to.

If your decision to wear a mask or not only affected you, I would not give a damn which choice you make.

However, the current coronavirus spreads while a person is asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic. The fact is that masks are less about preventing you from getting the virus then they are about preventing you from spreading the virus (whether you know if you have it or not.)
Masks prevent you from spreading the germs that spread it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLsGJHRGB_s [youtube.com]

As for your civil liberties they are far from being violated. Your freedom of speech does not allow you to go into a crowded theater and yell fire which may cause a panic and injure others. Schools are allowed to not let your kids attend if they do not the proper vaccinations. Health departments have been allowed to quarantine people and areas for years before the current coronavirus pandemic.

If you feel so bothered by your own selfishness, that an act as simple as wearing a mask in order to prevent the chance of death of people around you if you might have the virus is heresy; you do not deserve the rights you actually have.

If we extend your logic, then everybody must be coated in nerf before they are allowed to go outside, for fear that they may hurt someone by bumping into them. We must not be allowed to move our arms and legs about freely lest we bruise someone accidentally. Nor can we be allowed to ride bikes, drive cars, or any other activity that may inadvertently cause harm.

Existence carries a level of risk. Eliminating that risk constitutes nightmarish tyranny. If you want to live in a padded cell the rest of your life, go ahead, but do not impose that on the rest of us.

And exactly which "organized society" would you suggest? The one where it's okay to go out and riot and gather in massive numbers because some black guy got killed (all with corporate and political blessing), yet the one where we also suddenly where we go full police state because some people had a private house party? Or how about San Francisco? One of my favorite "organized societies." The one where you have people, filthy rich people, virtue signaling on an international level 24/7 as they trip over the vagrants, homeless, and streets full of human excrement on their way to work? That "organized society"?

Whatever "organized society" you think exists, doesn't. Society is currently likely the most unstable its been in about 70 years. That you can't see this is something we can chalk up (with genuine nostalgia) to the naivete of the youth. And the cork is about to pop on this party. However the most disturbing thing is that this cork isn't being popped because of some rioters, or some race nationalists (of any color), or whatever else. This party's being organized by guys on the top down.

Context matters. If you go to a party and nothing public happens, then nobody need ever hear about it; but if you go to a party and there is a fire, a crime, a medical emergency, then suddenly there will be an official spotlight, and the context switches from "privacy at a private party" to "witness at an incident of official interest". It's all fun and games until an under-age drunk drowns in the pool.
