BBC:

Netflix has seen a surge in sign-ups due to the coronavirus lockdown, but has warned investors that subscriber growth will slow.

The streaming giant added more than 10 million subscribers in the three months to July, bringing the total of new subscribers to 26 million in 2020.

In contrast, Netflix saw 28 million new subscribers for the whole of 2019.

"Growth is slowing as consumers get through the initial shock of coronavirus and social restrictions."

Will Netflix's library expand to accommodate the growth in subscribers?

i still got a hangover from the marvel universe movie bing that started with "iron man"...
i guess it's hard to beat that consistancy and vision.
tho it seems sci-fi is not in high demand there are tons of "old" but visionary books out there just waiting to be made into good movies.
however, like with every genre and performance it first and formost has to hit the spot with the ... uhm ... errr ... overlords, 1%ers -aka- financiers before anything goes. and of course they always have one agenda only: money.
movies and books and even age old performances always also tell a story about the times they were made in.
the only new genre(less then 100 years old), methinks, is the endless drama of the tv format. they go on and on and ... you guessed it ... on.
the geografical "piece de resistance" for that is south korea at the moment. it is a fantastical medium of "gleichschaltung" where many thousand (or even ten thousand) people watching feel, sad, or happy or angry at the same time.
anyways, looking forward to new and exciting stories to watch and my guess is that these will spring from secluded minds that acctually have a mobile phone that has a layer of dust on it sitting around ^_^

There are a lot of new sci-fi films and TV shows being created and it could be considered a golden age for them. Ad Astra, Arrival, Alita: Battle Angel, Replicas, I Am Mother, etc. Books are being used, such as The Expanse, The Martian, and Foundation.
