BBC:

US Attorney General William Barr has accused Hollywood and US tech firms of "collaborating" with the Chinese government to do business there.

Companies like Disney routinely agreed to censor films while Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and Apple were "all too willing" to work with Beijing, he said.

Such actions risked undermining the liberal world order, Mr Barr added.

His intervention is the latest criticism of China by White House and other US officials.

Tensions between the US and China have been rising over a host of issues. The US this week removed Hong Kong's preferential trade status, after China brought in a controversial new security law for the territory.

Does working with China mean freedoms are undermined elsewhere?

These things aren't legally banned. They're just frowned upon. There's a big difference.

Not a single one of the bans mentioned in your link still exists. Chinese government censorship will last longer, unless the government is corrected in the near future.

So sorry, I keep forgetting that this is a numbers game to you people.

So, there are no films/books banned in the US now? Check your "patriot act" to be sure, ok?

There's some stuff with local and occasionally federal bans, e.g. child/zoophile porn, really fucked up stuff like that, but generally it's understood that you can't be targeted for what you read or look up.

China is an extremely authoritarian surveillance state. You can be arrested for looking up pro-democracy literature. Comparing them is like comparing Donald Trump to Kim Jong Un. Both are bad, but one is far, far worse than the other.

Why do you people defend China? You have to know better. You've gotta realize they're far worse. Is it for political reasons? I don't understand.

Gonna tell me it doesn't happen?

I known about the tyranny of China all my life, and clearly I'm not defending them. So what if they're worse? That's just your "with us or against us" shtick. Screw that. We can't do anything about China, we can do something about Trump. We can't remove their president, we need to replace ours, I would prefer a more suitable option than the one being presented, but what the hell, a blender would be better, it's a hostage situation. How he ever got one vote to begin with is a sad reflection on the collective. That he won, and might win again(!) is an even worse reflection on the opposition

Well I definitely think we need to get Trump out of the white house immediately. The man is devolving the US into a police state.

But, once the dust settles, I think we have an absolute ethical obligation to make things as unpleasant for China and be as punitive as possible about human rights violations as we are able.
Our country isn't the only one that matters.

Sorry, it's all just standard boilerplate war mongering propaganda. Regular form 27E/8 with subform 35Z in triplicate, just fill in the adversary, and the document will be immediately emailed to the news wire services to be repeated verbatim world wide in the local language.

I still wonder what made the people that lied us into the last few wars all suddenly credible an' stuff... Pretty sure we all know the answer to that.

An outright war would likely lead to a nuclear holocaust. I don't think anybody remotely sane wants that.
But, I do want China to be isolated and punished. We tried opening up to them, letting them trade with the free world. They shat in our open mouths in return. So, we should revoke their world community privileges.

Is there? For example, picketing is not legally banned in Russia, but it takes about 5 seconds before your ass is hauled to police station if you do it.
