Launch time: one hour from now: 2100-0055 GMT (5:00-8:55 p.m. EDT)
Launch site: SLC-40, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida
Weather Forecast: 70% favorable
Drone Ship: Just Read the Instructions

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Anasis 2, or KMilSatCom 1, communications satellite for the South Korean military. The spacecraft was built by Airbus Defense and Space. Delayed from July 14. [July 14]

Notable: If successful, at 51 days this would be the fastest turnaround ever for an orbital rocket (beating the 54 day turnaround for the Space Shuttle Atlantis).

I thought we agreed these Muskvertisements weren't going to be on the front page anymore.

No, that is what you wished that we would all agree to.

Musk is generally newsworthy, because he gets shit done when others say it's impossible. I have no way of knowing this for sure, but I also suspect that Musk is a far more likable person than a myriad other assholes that Americans worship. Bill Gates, for instance? I despised that prick almost from the first day I ever heard his name. But he's rich, rich, rich, and Americans love him. Musk? He just seems like someone I could relate to.

Bill Gates almost certainly has Asperger's. Which could very well be why you dislike him. Not saying you don't like him 'cause of some perceived or unperceived disability, but that he has poor social skills. Thus, is easy to be unlikable. To my knowledge he's never come out and said that he has Asperger's or anything else. So, maybe he's just not likable, or he wants to keep it as a mostly private matter. Which would seem very reasonable to me.

Take in the musk. Let it seep into every orifice and pore. Eat the Mars soy.

I thought we agreed these Muskvertisements weren't going to be on the front page anymore.

Though infrequent in the case of SpaceX launches, this is rocket science with a non-zero chance of things going sideways.

There are some in our community who have expressed a desire to be notified before a launch so they can watch the launch in real-time. For some, it may be in hopes of seeing a possible earth shattering kaboom [youtube.com]. For others, the sheer amount of power being harnessed with such fine control is of interest. Whatever the motivation, there is an interest by some in the community to have advance notice. This story provides exactly that.

For those who are not interested in rocket launches, do be aware this story was in addition to other stories posted today. If there were going to have been X stories today, now there are X+1. All other stories appear at the same date and time as they would have otherwise.

So, for those who are not interested in SpaceX Falcon 9 launches, just ignore those stories and you would have the same experience as if we never ran them. For those who are interested, they get advance notice of an upcoming launch.

As it happens, this launch marked a milestone as it was the very first time that SpaceX successfully caught BOTH fairing halves.

How will we know that we missed the kaboom story if we have to opt out of the muskvertisements?
