Mounting poisonings, blindness, deaths as toxic hand sanitizers flood market

The Food and Drug Administration is renewing warnings this week of dangerous hand sanitizers as it continues to find products that contain toxic methanol—a poisonous alcohol that can cause systemic effects, blindness, and death.

The agency's growing "do-not-use list" of dangerous sanitizers now includes 87 products. And with the mounting tally, the FDA also says there are rising reports from state health departments and poison control centers of injuries and deaths.

"We remain extremely concerned about the potential serious risks of alcohol-based hand sanitizers containing methanol," said FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn in a statement.

the people who died from these crap sanitizers were SO DESPERATE to buy hand sanitizer that they bought really off brand crap of unknown origin because they thought hand sanitizer was a life or death need

No, the "life and death need" is what you inferred, they bought it as hand sanitizer. Even a survivor of covid infection using such a hand sanitizer after getting his hands dirty/scratched/whatever would experience the same risks.

It is unfortunate that, in the name of "economy/profit shall no be redtaped", there's no effective process to deal with poisonous imports in US. I reckon you can thank to your beloved Orange Clown - his administration really made FDA so efficient [sciencemag.org] that you are able to win this one too. Are you tired a winning yet?

So you STILL found a way to blame Orange Man for this? You are crazy.
Blame globalization which has been promoted by ALL presidents for decades except Trump. Globalization and Chinese economic integration in particular gave us the Wuhan flu. Globalization shrank American manufacturing to the point that basic medicines etc. aren't even made in the US. Trump is the first president to even take any action at all against this, small as it is.

You are delusional. The virus could have popped in any part of the world and infected US all the same, Chinese economic integration or not.

I don't know what severing the economic ties with China will do to US economy by I can tell you:
      1. it will not defend US from the next pandemic and will not have any consequence over how the next pandemic will play in US
      2. an idiotic reaction as the one of the Orange Clown had to the present pandemic will cause the same level of hurt on US society. Or much worse if the next pandemic is a deadlier virus (... shudders... Ebola or Marburg virus)
