Economists warn of 'widespread costs' from lockdown:
Blanket restrictions on economic activity should be lifted and replaced with measures targeted specifically at groups most at risk, say economists.
[...] They argue that while the extent to which the lockdown contributed to a subsequent slowing in the rate of new infections and deaths is not easy to estimate precisely, it seems clear that it did contribute to these public health objectives.
However, they say it is "very far from clear" whether keeping such tight restrictions in place for three months until the end of June when they began to be lifted was warranted, given the large costs. They say that the costs of carrying on with such a lockdown are likely to have become significantly greater than its benefits.
Debate over the global dilemma continues.

Well they are experts in economics.
By dedicating a large part of your life to learning and doing something and achieving some recognition for it, you become an expert. Many experts of course do take the shorter route of self-proclamation and internet exposure.
But either way, there are experts in homeopathy, reading tea-leaves, astrology, demon sexology, etc. ... and economics.
Which of those experts are of most use in dealing with a global pandemic and should be trusted to do it, is a matter of opinion.

No, they're just credentialed. It's a lot like computer administration/coding certs. Certs don't actually prove you good at anything except taking the cert test.

How does email at Soylent News work?
I once tried to send email to someone at Soylent News and never got any response or indication that sending it worked. It might as well have been dropped as spam or ignored because the service was not available. Of course it might also have been received as intended but not replied to.

Show you up? Why? Showing yourself up is the singular skill that keeps you employed here. I wouldn’t dare suggest greater competence in THAT.
