Cartoons Were Right? Bending a Rifle's Barrel Backward Will Actually Redirect a Bullet:

In an experiment you should never, ever try at home, the experimenters at YouTube's DemolitionRanch found that if you were strong enough to bend the barrel of a rifle back on itself (a clever maneuver Bugs Bunny often pulled on Elmer Fudd) the bullet would actually follow the curved path.

[...] For DemolitionRanch's latest firearms experiment, it goes one step beyond what The Mythbusters tested[*] and bent the barrel of an automatic rifle almost 180 degrees backward so that it points back at someone unfortunate enough to be holding the weapon. [...] They built a remote rig to safely test what would happen.

[...] when the rifle was fired remotely, the bullet exited the barrel at its business end

You seem, like an American, to be missing the negations? And the joke.

Perhaps I am. Then again, I don't speak Russian. As such, I relied on Google Translate [google.com] so I could understand it.

    Google Translate says that
    В «Правде» нет известий, в «Известиях» нет правды
    means
There is no news in Pravda, there is no truth in Izvestia

Since pravda means "truth" and izvestia (loosely) means "news", and Pravda and Izvestia were official publications of the USSR government, that would really only be amusing to someone old enough to remember (and possibly lived in) the USSR. How's the GRU pay scales these days, Ivan?

If that's the correct translation, I stand by my comment. Mostly as I'd find the "joke" better if it was:
There is no truth in Pravda, there is no news in Izvestia

Another period joke in the US at Soviet expense (paraphrased from memory...)

A man is sent by his wife to stand in the long line at the store to get meat.
After a few hours pass in line the proprietor yells out that they have run out of Chicken.
More hours pass and the man gets closer, and now the proprietor announces that they are now out of sausage as well.
Finally as evening comes and just as the man finally reaches the door the proprietor shouts out that they have run out of Beef and have no more meat of any kind.
The man curses and yells about the poor situation in the country and that noone can ever purchase meat to eat.
As he is ranting, a man in the characteristic hat and overcoat of a KGB agent taps him on the shoulder saying "Comrade, I would not say such things if I were you."

The man immediately quiets down and heads straight home to his wife.
His wife sees that he has nothing and says "Oh, have they run out of meat?"

The man replies with a shudder "It is worse...they have run out of bullets."
