Take a closer look at Elon Musk's Neuralink surgical robot – TechCrunch:
While the science was front-and-center in Elon Musk's presentation about Neuralink, his human brain computer inference company, the surgical robot the company debuted made a splash of its own. The rounded polycarbonate sci-fi design of the brain surgeon bot looks like something out of the Portal franchise, but it's actually the creation of Vancouver-based industrial design firm Woke Studio. To be clear, Musk's engineers and scientists have created the underlying technology, but Woke built the robot's look and user experience, as well as the behind-the-ear communication end piece that Neuralink has shown in prior presentations.
[...] "While the patient may not be awake to see the machine in action, it was still important to design a non-intimidating robot that can aesthetically live alongside the iconic machines in Musk's portfolio," the company explains in a press release. "It also needed to meet a long list of medical requirements in terms of sterility and maintenance, and provide safe and seamless utilization for its operators."

This kind of psychopathic behavior is why we can't have good things. There's a bit of an issue with that in that if everybody was as self-centered as you are, then we'd never get any sort of medical treatments as everybody would be waiting for others to go first.
The reality here is that it's unlikely for any possible vaccines to have significant side effects. The most likely worse case scenarios are that they either don't work or they wear off too quickly.

It's not self-centered to practice caution. There have been way too many mistakes and purposeful lies historically to expect anyone to trust a vaccine sight unseen. Then factor in everyone who won't be able to get there vaccine at all - medical conditions, no insurance or money, poor or no English skills, etc. The desperate, scared, and those legally or otherwise required to receive the vaccinations will probably be the first wave.

Unless you're also arguing the researchers and pharmaceuticals should work pro-bono and non-profit, the solution to the above problem is to compensate the test subjects fairly for risking life and limb with a whole lot of money up to and including patent royalties.
As a general rule of thumb, where there's volunteers and charity, there's corruption and market failures.
