Apple Sells a Million Watches

The Register, MarketWatch, and Mashable are reporting an estimated 1 million sales of Apple's wrist augment based on Slice Intelligence's analysis of ereceipt data. Demand has been strong enough to push back deliveries by weeks, and "Apple is set to sell all of its production volume for the first three months".

Putting those figures together, that means Apple could have shifted 1.24 million watches on its first day of preorders on Friday. How does that stack up in Apple history? Back in 2007, it took the company 74 days to sell its one millionth iPhone, and it took two years to get to that milestone with the iPod. [It took Apple 28 days to sell 1 million iPads.]

Apple seems to have underestimated short-term demand for its latest product, and may intend to sell 20 million Apple Watches in the first year of availability.

    A year ago I bought a Pebble watch just to fiddle around with and, given that in my line of work timely communication is important, it has turned out to be a very useful device for me. I am absolutely interested in the Apple Watch in that it's an improvement over the Pebble in virtually every single way I use it. Here's a couple of examples: First, the Apple Watch lets you read an entire email. The Pebble watch only gives you the first line summary. Second is that when photos are sent along via iMessage they're visible on the Apple Watch, the Pebble Watch just plain doesn't have the display for it. Both cases improve my work day. Although I think the price is too high for what you get, I have legitimate reasons to consider purchasing one. But... no, if I even go check one out I'm a 'sheep' because ... and this is amusing ... I don't agree with the Apple Hater Crowd. Whatever.
