A 37-year-old Colorado Springs man was cited for discharging a weapon within city limits after shooting his Dell computer 8 times with a 9mm handgun. The police report said that he "was fed up with fighting his computer for the last several months" and shot it in a back alley behind his home. What was not mentioned is exactly why he was so "fed up" with his computer. Could this senseless and violent tragedy have been avoided if his PC were running Linux instead?

If he liked his computer very much and made love with it, would he be charged with sexual relations with a minor (if the installation was less than 18 years old) ?

There was a man who was arrested and charged a few years back for having sexual relations with his bicycle.

And I have to agree, destroying hardware that caused you mental angst is quite satisfying. Cursing the computer also helps. I also sometimes give my computer the finger.

When my appliances don't work correctly, I threaten them with Linux. By the time I'm ready to look for the Live USB or something like a JTAG interface or a means to integrate a developer board, they start working again.

I've only followed through with the threat on my computers, and now I threaten them with Windows or when I'm really angry Mac OS. That's when they spit up the error message of what is ailing them, Linux gets fixed, and we get back to work.
