The Guardian is reporting on a newly discovered bug in IOS which causes iDevices to continually crash and reboot.

Once the user has entered what its discoverer, security researchers Skycure, dubs the “no iOS Zone”, there’s no way to fix their phone other than escaping the range of the malicious network; every time it reboots, it crashes almost immediately.

The basis of the attack uses a “specially crafted SSL certificate”, typically used to ensure a secure connection, to trigger a bug in the operating system that crashes out any app using SSL.

More info on Skycure's blog.

that there hasn't been a court order out there preventing Apple from fixing this (and preventing disclosure of this particular big).

Imagine how much easier it would be to "disband" a troublesome group of enemy forces [wsws.org] if you could first disable all those troublesome terrorist-friendly [reuters.com] devices that could be used to record your actions...

Now all we need is an Android equivalent and we're golden! Thanks, police state! [youtube.com]

Are you complaining that they're not succeeding as a police state?

As long as government is permitted to smack people on a whim because they don't like them (as been shown). They can't be trusted and thus the people will not accommodate their "requests". However when it comes to the ability to go full fascist, no organization can ever be trusted with that. It's inherent in gaming theory.
