The Guardian is reporting on a newly discovered bug in IOS which causes iDevices to continually crash and reboot.

Once the user has entered what its discoverer, security researchers Skycure, dubs the “no iOS Zone”, there’s no way to fix their phone other than escaping the range of the malicious network; every time it reboots, it crashes almost immediately.

The basis of the attack uses a “specially crafted SSL certificate”, typically used to ensure a secure connection, to trigger a bug in the operating system that crashes out any app using SSL.

More info on Skycure's blog.

So this WiFi hack in conjunction with the Ars article on another two year old bug that can force an iPhone to connect to a wireless network. If that doesn't work one makes an AP to announce a carrier-specified SSID. Oh, and
mobile carriers expose users to WiFi attacks [skycure.com].

All in all, you can deny areas to walled garden promoting iZombies ;-)

As a bonus computerphones are done so that security fixes are hard to fix by your own. Old phones can't upgrade because the new (iOS 7) will demand more than the device can handle in CPU and RAM. One could give Apple a long face by instead of denying, just root the phones and give them a better OS or just better fine grained app access control and freedom to run code of your choice etc. And of course a logo which smears the corporate logo ;)
