The Guardian is reporting on a newly discovered bug in IOS which causes iDevices to continually crash and reboot.
Once the user has entered what its discoverer, security researchers Skycure, dubs the “no iOS Zone”, there’s no way to fix their phone other than escaping the range of the malicious network; every time it reboots, it crashes almost immediately.
The basis of the attack uses a “specially crafted SSL certificate”, typically used to ensure a secure connection, to trigger a bug in the operating system that crashes out any app using SSL.

I try to make a habit out of running with WiFi off as an SOP. My spouse refuses to even consider turning it off.
That being said, I miss a couple aspects of my very old Windows mobile phone.
1.) The audio mute slider switch. When thrown the phone made no noise beyond vibration.
2.) The WiFi switch. WiFi wasn't as ubiquitous as it is now. The times you might actually want to connect to it to do something useful were few. A switch made sense.
Apple has the audio mute switch but lacks the WiFi switch, so does android but I digress. These days it doesn't make sense from an op-sec stance to run with WiFi on all the time.

I'm sure if I throw my phone hard enough, it also will no longer make noises, not even vibrating ones. ;-)
