Today comic book stores around the world celebrate "Free Comic Book Day", offering anyone who pays them a visit some free comic books. This year there's 50 different titles to choose from, including a reprint of Neil Gaiman's "Lady Justice" (not seen in print in nearly 25 years) and a new Fight Club story by Chuck Palahniuk. The Marvel and D.C. universes are represented, as well as Doctor Who, The Simpsons, Jim Henson's Labyrinth, and even something called Steampunk Goldilocks. Saturday many bookstores will also be recognizing "Independent Bookstores Day" with special events, though ironically, some fans may be tempted to visit Amazon.com instead to download some free Kindle editions of last year's free comic books.

Frankly, I don't give a fuck about comics of any sort. I've never been part of that crowd. But I do know a few people who are into comics. One fellow in particular is really into Japanese comics. He showed me and some other friends these comics once. We couldn't believe how goddamn fucked up they were. They were full of octopi engaging in the repeated sexual molestation of human beings. The drawing style was absolute shit. You have to know Japanese to read the text. The coloring was really bad. The generation storyline involved an octopus monster thing that raped one person after another. Every page we turned had yet another scenario involving it molesting someone, or even something, with its tentacles. Although we didn't say anything at the time, the rest of us started to think that the guy who liked these comics was some sort of a deviant. I don't know if they're still friends with him, but I've avoided him as much as I can since then.

It's sad to see that the downvoting here is getting almost as bad as it is at reddit. Comics from Japan are well known for their rather unique content. Pointing this fact out shouldn't result in punishment here.
