from the for-very-large-values-of-unreasonable dept.

When the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson was asked, "do you believe the government has the right to bulk collection of records from millions of individuals without a warrant", his response was that the question was "beyond my competence as secretary of homeland security" to answer.

The original article touches on some important details and raises key criticisms of the slipshod method currently used to obtain communications records for millions of people from US phone companies in violation of the spirit, if not letter, of the US Constitution's Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable government searches and seizures.

Well, what would surprise me is an actual populist like Bernie Sanders both winning the presidency and being able to implement his policies (e.g. he opposed the Patriot Act from the beginning).

I like Bernie but he has a slightly lower chance of becoming President than Dennis Kucinich. Elizabeth Warren could do it, though she would have both the Republicans and Republican Democra...I mean, Hillary Clinton's surrogates, baying from now until election day that electing her would be the End. Of. The. World.

But god it would be wonderful to elect a President whose first official act would be to arrest every mother-lovin' banker on Wall Street and throw them into prison until such time as prosecutors can unwind every shell corporation and scheme they've used to pillage the global economy (READ: 1,000 years).

So, yeah, both our schemes are as likely as the second coming of Buddha, thus the revolution still cometh.
