Provides an example of how laws only matter insofar as the people agree to follow them. If everybody wants something, it will be had, irrespective of corporate fiddling.

Grooveshark was a music-streaming site that was finally shut down by the music industry last week due to the revelation of deliberate violations of copyright by employees. Employees had uploaded music tracks themselves to bolster Grooveshark's catalog, in contrast to other services (e.g. YouTube) that simply take down user-uploaded content in response to DMCA notices and are not liable for copyright infringement of the users.

TorrentFreak reports that the widely-reported "clone" that emerged soon after Grooveshark's demise is actually a reskin of another site, MP3Juices.se:

We concede that to some the idea of a reincarnated Grooveshark will be a somewhat romantic one but as we highlighted at the weekend, the practice of passing one site off as another is now really getting out of hand.

Only time will tell if Grooveshark.io will magically transform into a proper replacement for the now defunct site, complete with playlist and community features for example, but it seems unlikely.

As things stand Grooveshark.io appears to be just a re-badged/re-skinned clone of MP3Juices.se, a low-traffic clone of the original MP3Juices. In the scheme of things it's hardly likely to be an important target for the RIAA, except for one small detail. The labels now own all of Grooveshark's intellectual property – brand names and trademarks included...

Allow me to translate SJW to English:

Check out this story from earlier today, viewed at -1.

Check out this story where someone downmodded my stupid opinion.

There are currently 98 comments. 13 of them are modded Troll. 3 are modded Flamebait. 1 is modded Off-Topic. 7 are modded funny.

Someone dared to mod my stupid opinion [soylentnews.org] as troll. (off-offtopic: I wish we had a -1 "stupid" mod)

Only 6 are modded Insightful, and 4 are modded Interesting.

Clearly my comment should have been one of them. Don't you realize my subjective opinions are inherently superior to yours?

Clearly the moderation system is broken when over 25% of the comments have a negative moderation, and only about 10% have a positive moderation.

You should censor the opinions I disagree with and promote the opinions I agree with instead.

When we look at the comments objectively, we see that the ones modded Troll are not trolling.

I don't really get what "objective" means, but someone once used it to slam my stupid opinions so it probably is fine to say it here.

The ones modded Flamebait are not flame-baiting. The one modded Off-Topic is actually on-topic.

I'm saying that so that you can't realize that I'm bitter about my own comment was modded troll.

Furthermore, of the ones modded Insightful, only two actually fit that criteria. Of the ones modded Interesting, only one fits.

I disagree with all the opinions which don't promote the SJW narrative. Be my personal army and censor them now!

Something is very wrong when 31 out of 34 moderations are blatantly incorrect.

I think that moderation should be used to push my personal opinions.

I'm not going to pretend to have any answers, but it's getting clearer and clearer every story that the moderation system here needs some serious reworking.

We need to limit moderation privileges to people like me, so that we can prevent free speech from offending me.

Too many good comments are getting downmodded, and too many useless comments are getting upmodded.

Too many people I agree with... oh you get the picture.

This awful moderation is really starting to make the discussion here difficult to read.

    Unsubbed!
