Spotted at Laughing Squid is an link to the Jet Powered Go-Kart developed by Colin Furze.

From the linked YouTube video summary:

So it's finished and it's brilliant, it's stable it starts easy and the fuel system after a slight redesign (see website) works perfectly. Top speed so far is 60mph but i run out of airstrip so might be more in it.

More details are available at Colin's project site. Colin is also known for previously developing this Jet powered bicycle.

Ah, the classic "stop having fun so I can pretend the time I waste on this news site is important and serious".

    RUST 1.0 HAS BEEN RELEASED!

This is the biggest programming news to have happened since the release of Java back in 1995.

I'm (kinda) excited too, but if it'll be the biggest thing in languages for the next 15 years, it doesn't matter much if it's published 5-6 hours later?

This is a news site. Breaking news should get to the front page of the site as fast as possible. This news is already on HN and even Slashdot, for crying out loud! It's really sad when Slashdot of all sites gets news out before this site does.

I really see no rush, expecially since we've covered the prerelease earlier this week.

Also, SN is not a news site, but a news aggregator. Also, it's not in some sort of competition with HipsterNews or Slashdot.

I actually see more benefit in waiting MORE, to gather some solid press releases and reactions to this, and make a roundup.

I'm still pretty excited about this, and would certainly being hacking some stuff with it, if I wasn't graduating in a week.

This is a news site. It should get breaking news on the front page as soon as possible. It should not get news to the front page days after Slashdot does.

Why? So you can throw the term hipsters around and act like the victim when you're rightfully modded down for it?

No, I submitted it because this site is called Soylent News and this is the top news story at HN, Slashdot, reddit and other top tech news sites. Unlike those sites, this site has a serious problem with getting news to the front page in a timely manner. Breaking news only gets there if somebody explicitly points out the submission. Since there's no other way of flagging breaking stories, one must post a comment in an unrelated story.
