AlterNet reports:

Illinois governor Bruce Rauner watched his anti-union bill called, "Right-To-Work", die a swift, cruel death in the House [May 14]. [...] The the tally [PDF] was 0 yes votes, 72 no votes, and 37 voting present.

Fun with math: The Illinois House has 118 members.

A handful of Republicans went for a walk during the vote, not publicly falling on one side or another.

A sub-contractor, is normally a corporation that negotiates with the business to replace workers with their workers.

If there is a union contract in place I can't imagine how that wouldn't violate the contract (unless the union had someone incredibly stupid draw up that contract).

...and just replacing an existing worker (not filling a vacancy) would likely get the scab beaten into unrecognizable mush.
The boss that hired the scab better watch his back as well.

That's been tried on me a couple times. It didn't end well for the union members. I've never actually hurt a union member, but I would happily shoot the sumbitch who interfered with me while I was going about my lawful business.

AT&T workers were striking in Manhattan long years ago, when I was dispatched to deliver some kind of goods to an AT&T facility. I wasn't even aware of the strike. I arrived in the wee hours, caught a couple hours sleep at the gate, around 5:30 a guard woke me up and sent me in the gate. I got unloaded, and headed back to the gate. There were few dozen picketers at the gate by then, and when the gate was opened, half a dozen or so made a rush toward my truck. I just put that bitch in gear, and revved up the diesel. I was going through that gate, come hell or high water. The morons kinda figured that out, and got the hell out of the way. I probably wouldn't have bothered threatening to run over a bunch of damned fools on the way IN - or maybe I would have. I was young then, maybe I would have.

I am not bound by some union that doesn't represent me - screw them.

You would have run people over, committed murder!? And for what? So you could get off work early? Or was it for The Man? Think about that for a few. Never ceases to amaze me how devoted people can get to their "duty", for a company that has zero appreciation for loyalty and would happily lay them off, fire them, or just plain cut their throats, if they thought it might improve the bottom line.

Be glad they did scramble out of the way. Suppose one of those strikers had been so desperate, hurting so bad, unable to feed his family or himself, that he didn't care if he got run over? You might still be behind bars today, wishing for the thousandth time that you'd curbed your impetuosity.

I did say that a half dozen of them were headed for me, in my truck. They were quite willing to drag me out of my truck, and as gewg put it, "beat the scab into mush".

If I got beaten into mush, there were going to be OTHER bodies lying around.

Yes, indeed, I would have killed any damned fool who thought that I would just permit him to beat me to death. It's called "self defense". I realize that in today's politically correct society, many people would call it "murder", but they'll have to prove that in a court of law, after the fact.

Strikers sometimes pull truck drivers out and brutally attack them. Since this appeared likely, self-defense applies. He isn't required to sit there and get beaten to a bloody pulp.

Windows are easier to break than my hard head. Locking the doors would be pointless. Absolutely pointless. I stop. I lock doors. I sit watching union goons approach. I watch union goons break out windows. I watch union goons reach through the windows, and scream my last as they drag me out through those broken windows.
