Ars Technica reports:

A Washington, DC appeals court ruled [May 15][1] that the Federal Aviation Administration did not overstep its authority when it allowed airline passengers to use electronic devices during takeoff and landing.

The Association of Flight Attendants had challenged the change, suing Michael Huerta, the administrator of the FAA, along with that agency.

However, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found that the FAA has always had the ability to change rules as it pleases. The FAA had determined that allowing phones, e-readers, and other devices were within its purview.

Since [it first permitted airlines to allow passengers to] use personal electronic devices (PEDs) [in] October 2013, the FAA has authorized 31 airlines to do so.

The meat of the issue is that FAA's Notice N8900 is not a legislative rule carrying "the force and effect of law".

    I don't understand.
why would someone who likes communism also like the state's authority?
by definition, communism rejects a central authority.
the definition, in case you weren't aware, is "everyone produces as much as they can, and is provided with as much as they need (within the limits of what the community can offer)".
by the definition, everyone has as much authority as anyone else (otherwise the "as much as they need" would not work, since the people with more authority could get more).

I think he means "communism" in the "I'm a poorly educated person between the ages of 50 to 70 who has been trained to know Communism as a pejorative for everything I don't like, regardless of whether it espouses the ideals of Marx, Engels, et al or otherwise."

My personal favorite was from the 'Archie Bunker' character: 'Commie Pinko Fag'. WTF?!?!? LOL!

The first time I heard that I went into a fit of hysterical laughter. What a mix! The sad part about all of that is, nowadays that sounds exactly like many current US politicians.(and they wonder why I laugh at them!)

Isn't it "long-haired hippie freak commie pinko fag"? That's the version I remember anyway...

No, communism is the ultimate central authority. You are badly confused.

Communism is left-wing fascism. Fascism is right-wing communism. Both are totalitarianism, where a central authority maintains supreme power over the citizenry.
