An appeals court ruled the NSA's bulk collection was illegal. Rand Paul prevented the controversially named Patriot Act from being renewed, even if it was replaced a couple days later by the equally contentiously named "USA Freedom Act".

Mission accomplished? Not so fast:

The Obama administration has asked a secret surveillance court to ignore a federal court that found bulk surveillance illegal and to once again grant the National Security Agency the power to collect the phone records of millions of Americans for six months. The legal request, filed nearly four hours after Barack Obama vowed to sign a new law banning precisely the bulk collection he asks the secret court to approve, also suggests that the administration may not necessarily comply with any potential court order demanding that the collection stop.

Maybe some branches of the government are more equal than others?

I do not know why all the animosity about public healthcare, other than what I believe is a piss-poor implementation of the payment system. ( It seems awful rigged to me to benefit some very rich people at the expense of the taxpaying public ).

I think its only prudent that we address health issues for everyone. No-one wants a bunch of disease-ridden people in public. We have no problem dealing with rodents, mosquitoes, fruit flies, or other public pests. We seem to have no problem using public resources to rescue "the rich" who have the luxury of hiking in the mountains or sailing in the waters ill-prepared for the accident they encounter, yet we seem to resent helping the average joe/jane with their problem?

Personally, I believe the idea of public healthcare is good, but way too much effort is being placed on paperwork in lieu of care. Its saddening to pass by huge buildings, with a healthcare provider's name emblazoned across the top, and know there is not a single stethoscope in the whole building, much less a doctor or nurse. Nothing in the building but a bunch of useless desk hens doing absolutely meaningless work.

The problem with the ACA is that it isn't single-payer; it's corporate welfare.

The real problem is the never-ending quest for profit. Everyone is too selfish and too greedy to care about anything except theoretically having the chance to profit from everything possible, morals and ethics be damned. Star Trek was spot-on in their creation of the Ferangi race, except in reality Ferangi aren't ugly brown people with big ears, they're US citizens.

More so than you know; did anyone see this awful ad campaign run by a car dealership in Utah?

For those who don't want to contribute to the site's traffic numbers: a crotchety old man with enormous ears who even talked about "having the lobes for business". Either someone was pulling a prank, or a manager never saw Star Trek.

One Major Downside to "Obamacare" is that our University dropped the maximum hours a US Citizen can work as a Student Worker. Because otherwise they will have to pay for their healthcare. International Student Workers don't have the same restriction. Good for the international Student Worker, bad for the USA Student Worker. I am sure there a bunch of other "side effects" to this whole ACA junk. I did make out like a bandit though as my employer was forced to add my spouse to my insurance.
