SoylentNews is people

Former Swedish Pirate Party leader and Internet activist Rick Falkvinge launched a new venture yesterday. Intended to rival established media, Falconwings provisions quality news bulletins that are easily shared via the project's automated image creation process. A total of 600 writers are being recruited, with the sole criteria being the ability to consistently author summaries of 450 characters, split into three principle sentences: Fact, Background and Satire.

Initial signs have been promising, with the various tweets from candidates exceeding expectations in terms of quality and audience.

Are there any budding Soylentils interested in giving this a try?

Some of the candidate tweets are pretty good... Although graphically VERY hard to read and super busy/low contrast, aka "ugly". I'd have multiple alpha feeds where one is unreadable but very artistic with the barely readable text on the bright textured background, and a "real" feed where the background is barely visible, heck, invisible would look nicer.

I had the idea maybe 20 years ago that like it or not that each web page is eventually going to be a single giant .gif as an imagemap to keep the graphics artist types happy. I could see it happening. This is that idea, but smaller. This thing is an innovative way to work around ad blocking.

WRT the death of text, sucks to be blind. Maybe as a public service they could squirt out a braille feed, that would get lots of goodwill for little cost.

Shit, I'd love to work for them, even for free. The problem is that they'd do me dirty with an extradition request Julian Assange-style for violating some kind of obscenity or hate-speech law. Don't forget that it's the EU we're talking about here, and especially Sweden. They won't be running headlines like, "Immigrants win birthrate race, angry cockroaches demand rematch," or "Transracial Native Swede beats rape charge for being 'Black'."

The worst you'd get as "satire" from this service would be something like The Onion, which is not funny at all, unless you're the kind of person who enjoys a bowl of plain oatmeal every morning.

    Novel approach though.

Your comment prompted me to look at your Journal. You have spent a significant amount of time utilizing the self-works features of Soylent indeed; I have no doubts that you would work for this News Bulletin Service for free.
