In light of the recent activities of Dice Holdings trying to monetize the website it purchased in September 2012, Martin Brinkmann at gHacks reports
The admin of the popular NotePad++ text editor announced [June 15] that the project would leave SourceForge
[...] The project will use Github as the development hub for Notepad++ exclusively.
[...] tmux, nmap, [and] VLC for instance [are also trying] to get Sourceforge to remove [their] projects from the site
In the comments, Oxa June notes that Pale Moon is looking to move away.
In addition, Softpedia notes that WINE is migrating away.

I think you have it backwards, they are entirely competent. They just have no ethical standards and have traded real brand value for cold hard cash. Its the sellout strategy made so popular in the 80's! It takes time for awareness of these things to really propagate, and usually takes extreme examples to help people realize the negative effects. I'm not sure if it is ever possible to hold on to a brand since people move on to other projects and new management has the option to do things differently. The only solution is what is becoming more common these days, move on and make a new community!

No, I get it - their business model is to monetize existing brands and squeeze out all the cash they can.
What surprises me is that they seem to be so bad at it. By which I mean, they don't seem good at keeping their audience around long enough to maximize the amount of money they can squeeze out of them.

I understand, I think sustainability is just a dirty word to these types of investors.

Unfortunately, "investors" have become a dirty word to information aggregators.
